Transmission issue P.S.A....

Im sure many of you have had a few issues with transmissions. Here is a copy of an issue we encountered at my dealer (done on my car) that may be the actual cause/fail of some manual transmissions here. The symptoms you may encounter are squeaking/loud noises while depressing the clutch while the car is off and it being a lot harder than normal to engage/push the shifter into a certain gear of the car at times. Turns out technical found SOME clutch splines were not properly lubricated during production and the diagnosis is listed on my print out. So you all understand, the fix takes time and your transmission will have to be dropped re-lubbed with clutch spline grease and re-filled with trans fluid. (So dont expect a quick turn-around getting your car back). The issue is a warranty job up to 60k and so long as it is discovered to be true (modded car can be rejected as always depending on who you are dealing with) they would be alot more willing to do this job than give you a new transmission. We only discovered this as another FR-S was done prior to my car. As a result, shifting is buttery smooth again and it definitely rolls a lot better. This MIGHT be the only fix alot of you need. I can now tell it was definitely gummed up before we fixed it. Lastly, I work at the dealer in service/parts and I can tell you with certainty that more of your problems with not getting things done is people related and NOT TOYOTA. With that said, I hope this helps anyone having problems get them fixed with no issue. Hopefully I covered enough details.

I noticed there is a squeaking when i depress my clutch awhile ago...Might have to get the dealer to have a look. I havent noticed any unusual behaviour from the gearbox or clutch though. Thanks for posting this!

This is becoming a common issue. I hope they come up with TSB soon. I'm having a hard time getting my dealer to fix this issue. Been trying since April. It will be much easier if there is TSB.

I had this done last year, not long after I purchased my (used, 11K mile) 2013 FR-S. There was a small squeak when depressing the clutch, and they ended up replacing the T/O bearing, pressure plate, clutch fork and a clip on the fork.

The dealership also did me the favor of refilling my transmission with Subaru GL5 fluid, and it took a whole pissing match with the service department to get them to drain it and fill it with the proper Toyota LV 75W GL3/4 fluid, and THEN 'forgot' to replace the fill plug. Needless to say, I don't use that dealership any more.

about 400 miles away from 60k...slightly depressing if it goes after that

I have a weird issue that I can't diagnose. When under medium to heavy load, shifting from second to third gearand third to fourth (4k rpm and up), I hear a squeak coming somewhere near the engagement point when letting out clutch pedal.

On a rev match downshift, the squeak comes early, near the engagement point. The squeak comes from the engine bay side. Does not seem to be the pedal.

Just a product of overlapping gas and clutch a bit too much?

Can't say I notice any odd behavior other than the noise, so it may be a non issue. Car has 5k miles.
