DIY Day

Hi everyone,

Just curious if you guys and gals are interested in a DIY day. I used to help out at these kinds of events all the time when I had my S2000, where we would all work together at someone's house on small projects. These projects can include anything from installing a strut brace to putting in a reverse camera.

Since I'm pretty experienced in mechanical and electrical work, I was interested in organizing such an event, provided that someone with a long driveway that can fit about 4-6 cars can volunteer the location. I have just about any tool under the sun, so if you've been hesitant about crimping wires together and have been waiting for that soldering iron, please reply below!

Thanks.

Cheng

Down to drive up from OC if it's on a weekend.

Was going to take my brake upgrades to a shop because I'm lazy, but this might be a good motivation to diy! Never did brakes before so a few pointers would help too

diegoei 06-05-2015 04:10 AM

I'm nowhere near a good mechanic or know about engine but i need help installing a header lol

I did mine. If we get this day set I could help there if I can make it. But you'll have to help me with my brakes

I have a 2 car garage and car ports for 2 and plenty of driveway space. I in yucca valley though

LXXXV1 06-05-2015 11:02 AM

I think this is a great idea. Sub'd! No space in my driveway as I live in a town home but I'm down to help out if I'm available and it's not too far. I've got most tools to complete most DIY's.

I've DIY'd a lot of creature comforts on my car including: fogs, foot-well, back up cam, front and rear dash cams with the parking mod add-on, and JDM always-on DRL. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not only limited to creature comforts! I've installed a good amount of transmission/suspension stuff too! Next in line is to splice in my new Valentine 1 Radar and courtesy lights for the FRS. Yes, courtesy lights for the FRS! I've done extensive research on the install/wiring(a lot easier with foot-well lights) and I have everything I need to do it, just waiting on my schedule to free up. I anticipate a lot of people requesting it after I install it since a lot of people already ask me for DRLs and foot-well. I've been asked so much to the point where I bought extra resistors for the always-on mod, extra foot-well lights along with 100 feet of wiring lol. They're something I can easily install during a meet. I should've made write-ups but I'm always too lazy to take pictures or even upload/explain them lol.

Brakes and headers no problem easy peasy on these cars

 to thread and this community

ZOMFGAARON 06-05-2015 12:36 PM

I have quite a few things to do to my car and could help out. Don't have space at my house but I've done a few diys such as fog lights, 4th brake light, diffuser install, muffler delete install, headlight install, hard wire of illuminated visors off a brz, and a few more things I can't think of.

But I have a few parts I need installed like a front pipe and body kit which needs to be prepped and painted.

@customfab87

lets make a date location and get this started. great way to meet

Phantobe 06-05-2015 02:28 PM

I like this idea I'm in the OC. Might do some springs soon.

Lol looks like this is gaining momentum. Should we start a sign-up for themed DIY days? We might run out of parking space. We should do separate days for suspension, engine, lighting, creature comforts, etc? I just know suspension and some engine mods will take hours/require a lot of space.

Some of my mods take 10-30 minutes so I can even do them at meets...if they allow open hoods. Always on DRL takes 10 minutes and I've done enough foot wells that I can probably get it down in 30, sitting in your front seat.

FYI I have 6 extra white led stripes (enough for 3 cars) and a couple extra resistors from DDM Tuning if anyone wants footwell kits or the DRL always on on their JDM headlights. All my mods are neatly tucked and 100% reversible so you can uninstall like it was never there. Check the #LXXXV1 link in my sig for references.

BRZtoni 06-05-2015 06:14 PM

Im open to have any member come over and work on cars this idea is genius and build good community relationship for the love of this car. so lets start and figure out where and when we are going to do this.

My schedule will largely revolve around engine tuning for the next couple of weeks. ;-) Feel free to organize one without me the first time if everyone wants to do it soon.

Dude I would love to go. I have a 3" Perrin Big MAF CAI that need to be installed and my OFT is on the way :) would be honored for some help

Zed 06-05-2015 08:20 PM

I'd definitely be in for this as well. I'd be available to help out as needed or even just provide some beers for the handymen. I have a long standing problem with my reverse lockout:

Anyone have ideas on how to remove the broken bits inside the hole? I was thinking a strong magnet may help ease it out but I'm not positive it will be that easy...

At this point I'm thinking someone more experienced will need to get in there and drill the sucker out.

Edit: post #69. Think I'm just gonna lurk until the end of time now
