detecting knock on stock ecu

Hi, I'm daniel from germany and I have a few questions. I'm going do FI my GT86 to about 8psi and I want to tune the ECU on myself. I got a external AFR-gauge and EGT-gauge and display them via the Zeitronix LCD. I'm editing ROM-files via RomRaider/ECUflash and my question is, how can I log/show the knock detection? I want to tune the ignition timings but I dont know how to see if the engine is knocking.

greetings

Welcome bud. If you're already editing ROM-files and pulling logs, this should help immensely.

http://www.romraider.com/forum/topic1840.html

Edit: Keep in mind this is older and we're on a 32-bit ECU, so our IAM is 1 if there's no rough knock compensation and any lower than 1 means timing is being retarded. So instead of 0(bad) - 16(good) our scale is simply 0(bad)-1(good).

you can log knock parameters to the memory car in Tactrix see the Tactrix link below for the required logcfg.txt file for G series rom assume your using A01G rom.

If you want to see knock realtime then that is a problem.

you can use "Techstream" via Tactrix adapter and it will show some knock parameters realtime.

you might also want to talk to @ztan he has tuned his own turbo 86 using Taxtrix/ecuflash opensource.

see also the links on knock below

Thanks for your help guys. I want to see knock in realtime but actually I can only log and thats not the way how I want to tune my ECU :)
I forgot the techstream.... I have a Toyota-Notebook with techstream on it..... Thanks.

It would be great if @ztan could share his experience. (boost, timings, fuel...)
I'm on 102 Octane Gas (Aral Ultimate 102).

I am sure ztan will help you
he has also written some hybrid speed density code for A01G rom
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2214586

see also the roms here for sbd turbo kits running 7-9 psi on USA 93 petrol, very similar to gready kit aparantly
you could compare tables your 102 ron is probably close to usa 93 aki ( r+m)\2 fuel

Is it possible to convert the ROMs to .cuw File?

steve99 06-05-2015 06:56 PM

Not sure what .cuw file is is that techstream flashing format ?? , but i have no info on converting, best to use tactrix ecuflash.

Knock Control Learned is not knock it is value in Knock Correction max A table multiplied by IAM and FLKC.

for knock you want
IAM IgnitioncAdvance Multiplier
Feedback knock control FBKC
Fine Learning Knock control FLKC

pm me with your contact and I'll send you what I've got.

T518Z at 0.65 bar to redline on 98RON (poor). Minimal knock correction in closed loop part throttle areas, no knock WOT up to redline. A01G base ROM

I'd put it to you that our ECU reacts so quickly that even if you had a knock indicator on the dash, timing would be pulled many revs before you could react to lift your foot. Human reaction time from visual cue to foot lifting would be 0.4s at best (40 revs at 6000RPM) assuming optimal conditions where you were watching for it and not watching the road - in reality probably much longer.

Merp (search merpmod) had some code for getting knock indicated via the CEL in other Subaru models - may be helpful for what you want.

I am quite happy using logging and MatLab analysis to tune. Techstream too slow (0.200s for more than a few parameters). I'm using Tactrix - 0.075s sampling interval with a lot of parameters, 0.050s interval with less.

ps: What is your FI setup?

Which turbo? Are you on A01G ROM stock?
Running EcuFlash 1.44.4018

denso 06-08-2015 03:43 PM

I'll go with a RB25DET Hybrid Turbo with Garrett GT2860 internals.
Yes, I'm on A01G stock and I'll go with A01G with FI @ztan
