AVO Turbo Kit Install
 

Hey guys,

This just an informal thread for those of you that are interested, documenting an AVO Turbo Kit install I am doing soon.

The person opted for a "Package Kit" which comes with a Stage 1 Turbo kit, free-er flowing drop in panel filter, oil catch can, 3BAR MAP sensor and BOV.

The order was shipped off last week Tuesday and arrived almost exactly a week later to my door.

If all goes well, the car will be picked up this evening with a base (stock) dyno run being done tomorrow and work starting on the car this weekend.

From there an oil change will be done and a tune developed and thoroughly tested and then its back to the dyno for another run. :burnrubber:

The car is going to start its turbocharged life at between 0.4 and 0.48 bar boost and we will go from there.

That does look very neat... doing a full photos-of-install-and-all thing?

I will definitely be taking a few pics as I go along, and will upload them but I'm not planning on doing a complete "how-to" guide since AVO have covered that already, but I will document some of the install for sure.

Good question.

The owner has opted to try the stock brakes out for a bit at first and then make his decision based off how well they cope.

Depending on his driving style, they might be sufficient, but I'm sure he will at the very least end up opting for a pad upgrade - but lets see.

Is it a Std or a High spec?

Lot more pad options for high.

The standard brakes should be ok provided he doesnt do track days I reckon.

Low Spec.

The stock brakes, even on the HI spec are rubbish...Just the other day, I made them burn with just a spirited drive home.

Im pretty sure with just a pad upgrade they will be much better....Now dont get me started on the stock tires.....

I fitted on the EBC Yellow Stuff brake pads this weekend. Got it at a great price for R1550 from Star brakes in Edenvale. Have to take it easy for 500km - 1000kms before I really step on them. Will provide feedback once runned in

I agree with you guys, I think he will be replacing at the very least, pads once he has had some seat time.

@RueFT86, thanks for that. I have also had good experience with EBC but will also be looking at PowerBrake for options.

The most important issue isn't pads - it's brake fluid.
When pads overheat, they fade and you'll feel them going off progressively.
You get a 2nd chance...
Even when a pad disintegrates, you get a 2nd chance.

When brake fluid overheats, it boils, and your brakes catastrophically fail.
No 2nd chances...

I repeat what I've said before - don't venture onto a racetrack with stock fluid - the brakes WILL FAIL after 5-6 laps when the fluid boils.

A good fluid which is affordable is Motul 660, available in most motorbike shops at about 40% of the price of Endless RF650.

Trust me when I say this - I've done 16 track days in my 86 and I learnt the hard way.
I also thought I'd just put my toe in the water and see what happens.
Fortunately my brakes failed and I went off where there was nothing to hit.
