Open Track Day @ ORP

June 12 Star Projects is sponsoring an open track day at ORP. Price is $225 for nearly 7 hours of track time. This is for ORP experienced drivers only. No instructors will be available. If you would like to participate registration is through motorsportsreg.com. http://www.motorsportreg.com/events/...9#.VW-MbGfbLIU

Why'd you have to go and do this?

Now I've got to choose between being social and going to SCCA Track Night at PIR with some folks from work, or heading out to ORP for this :mad0260:

Lunatic 06-04-2015 02:27 AM

Just might have to go to this. We just got back to OR. from our winter home in Indio, CA. And we are working at the track sat and sun for the race so why not run Friday.

I did it just for you! Missed you at the TC event last month, wanted to make sure you had another opportunity for ORP this month.

So you participating, or just spreading the word? Seems like a great value but I'm a little apprehensive about the whole open passing thing (ask the folks who go to sykart with me what happens when I am offered open passing )

Probably a pretty great opportunity to network with some of the chump-car teams though, been trying to find a drive for late this year or next year.

Don't know yet. I have some other things that may get in the way. I've done a couple of events where open passing was allowed, with the constraint of a point by. Never had any problems. I did one of those at ORP earlier this year and it was great fun. In spite of the "open" passing the vast majority of passes were on the straights.

Probably in assuming I can get my brake prepwork done over the weekend, got the ok to take next Friday off. Hard to turn down what is basically unlimited (or rather fuel/tire/brake limited) track time.

Decay107 06-06-2015 10:02 PM

Brake lines flushed and pads changed back out to race compound. I'm in :burnrubber:

Lunatic 06-09-2015 03:33 AM

Well I'm signed up for Friday but now a darn CEL just came on so I'll have to get this sorted out before I can go.

Hope you can get it sorted out! You're one of the few Oregon track guys I still haven't had the opportunity to run with.

Me too!

No good, CEL is from a bad sensor which of course Scion does not have in stock and can not get it until Friday. So I won't be able to make it.

Perhaps try Subaru? In my experience they are far more pessimistic than Toyota about general reliability of piece parts.

@Lunatic, @Decay107, I'm looking very forward to running with you guys. Focusing on getting some more instructed time under my belt this summer. Safety first.

Well I know I'll be doing at least two more this season both of which offer instruction. There is the NWAA day at ORP, super cheap at $125. Ran with them last year and had a great time!

And I'll also be doing the Fall AROO day at PIR, no sign up yet, but will probably be the first or second week of October.

Thanks for that. i will ccertainly run that day

Decay107 06-11-2015 08:41 PM

Sounds like they'll be running the short course in the afternoon, can't say I'm crazy about that as all the best corners are in the North loop.

Decay107 06-13-2015 01:30 AM

Ho-ly-shit! The short course is freaking awesome! You sacrifice the half pipe for a straightishaway with a ton of short elevation change, car basically dances around underneath you the whoke time. Only two street cars there me and a C7, we were running a similar pace (which was way quicker than the majority of the field). Did about 2 hours on the full course and an hour on the short one.

Also, pretty sure I melted a throw out bearing :bs:

Want help dropping your tranny?

Gonna try a few other things first, it's the infamous squeak right now. Just for shits and grins, going to try to get it warrantied.

In other news, sounds like I burned a new hole in the exhaust (need to get under to investigate) but I think I found a good oil balance. Couldn't get redline 5w30 with a setrab 16 row core to drop below about 60 psi (front of engine) or get higher than about 230F, and this was an 80 degree day and old oil (3 track days total on it)

Also I'll have you know that tranny is an offensive term and you shouldn't use it.

It's ok at the drag strip.

stockysnail 06-13-2015 03:13 AM

Once I save up for new front track pads, I'll join in on the track time again. Hopefully I get one more in before the season is over. Trying to finish paying off my debts by the end of the year (not counting house and car). I'll have more $ per month then unless I try to pay off my car quick next.

jblmr2 06-14-2015 08:52 PM

OK @Decay107 how did it go?

It was great! Only 2 road cars (myself and a c7), got a lot quicker thanks to the open run format. Ended up with about three hours of track time not including warm up or cool down laps!

Also, I thought I'd dislike the sort course, but man was I wrong. Due to all the quick elevation change car basically dances right at the limit of grip through the entire bypass "straight"

Glad you enjoyed it. I wasn't able to rearrange my schedule or I would have been there. The open format is fun, coming and going as you please. I assume you ran clockwise? If so I've done the bypass in that direction and you're right, it's a straight that's not straight....typical ORP.

Just to let you know there is an event coming up at The Ridge on the fourth of July that's reasonably priced, $235. Most of the events there are $300>. The outfit putting it on is TSS/FFD. Registration is via Motorsportsreg.

Decay107 06-15-2015 12:03 PM

Yep, clockwise. Almost went up the hill after turn 5 right after they changed to the bypass, needed a real quick correction to not plow through the cones blocking off the northern part of the track.

And thanks for the info on the Ridge! I've been meaning to try it for a while, gotta see if I can fix the stuff I broke and still have some room in the budget to squeeze it in.

You're gonna like The Ridge. There are mixed opinions about "The Ridge Complex" (aka, mini corkscrew) but overall the track is very rewarding, flows well, without being overly technical and has a good variation of all the bits; big long straight, a long sweeper, elevation changes, blind corner, hairpin and corkscrew.
