DIY Front Bumper Debadging
 

I just wanted to show the steps I took into debadging my front end. Anyone who is willing to tackle this project and gets stuck feel free to contact me and I will be happy to answer any questions.
I start off by removing the bumper:

I then pry off the badge the only thing holding it is sticky tape and two small clips on the rear side. I sand all the paint off using 40 grit sandpaper.

I then apply short strand fiberglass, I try to push hard on my spreader when applying so everything thats hollow can fill up. Once its dry I give it a quick sand with 40 grit before going to the next step.

I then use body filler to do the final contour since its very easy to sand and shape it the way you want. This step requires patience and lots of time you need to shape it in a way it follows all the body lines. If you dont do it right once the bumper is painted it just wont look good. I use 80 grit sandpaper to do the rough sanding. Once I have the contour I move on to 180 grit sandpaper.

I then sand the paint around the repair area with 320 grit sandpaper in order to get it ready for primer. I mask the entire bumper and only leave the area where I will be applying primer. I then spray 3 coats of acrylic urethane primer surfacer. I leave the primer to dry overnight and next morning I sand with 320 grit using water. Once I have it nice and even I move to 600 grit sandpaper using water as a final step.

I decided to paint the entire bumper since it was full of rock chips from everday driving so I scuffed up the entire bumper with a red scotch brite and dish soap. I then mask off all the black trim I don't want painted. I applied two coats of basecoat to the repair area and then another 2 coats to the entire bumper.

I let the basecoat flash off and then apply 3 coats of clear.

I let it dry overnight and then I color sand the clearcoat with 2000 grit to get rid of any orange peel or dirt that may have landed while painting.

I then use a rotary polisher to polish out all the sanding I did. Once your are done polishing the paint will look like a mirror super shiny!

Thanks! It was alot of work but will worth it in my opinion. I will be posting another DIY for removing the rear trunk badge and filling the holes.

i love the shaved look, i recently shaved my side markers as well since over winter the car was hit and run and it cracked my shaved front -_- decided to change it up a bit. really makes the car look more "exotic" people genuinely have no clue wtf it is anymore. :lol:

I want so bad to do this to my car right now but I'll probably wait til the front has been beat up some from lovebugs and rocks. This looks so much nicer than just removing the badge.
