NOT a bunny.

5 months later, she is all done.

The last three days, hardly any sleep, I got the wheels, fit them in, cut up the car MORE, prepped all the parts.. Painted it, put it together.. And here are the results:

Can you explain what your license plate means? The car is great don't get me wrong, but that plate is just really perplexing me.

hamzam 05-31-2015 01:14 AM

AHH, Real Monsters.

... It's just a randomly generated plate :p

But don't worry, you aren't the first to ask!

humfrz 05-31-2015 01:16 AM

"Tough" looking car ......

themadscientist 05-31-2015 01:20 AM

Not bad. Red works well with the overfenders.

Okay that makes more sense. I wasn't trying to say it out loud to decipher it or anything... :bonk:

My dog must be so sick of me at midnight.

tyrantcf 05-31-2015 01:34 AM

That is....not my thing.

But glad you're happy with it. Always a good feeling to finish a project :drinking:

Pickleahoy 05-31-2015 01:41 AM

Too much offset? Congrats on finishing the build though

Turbo95eg6 05-31-2015 02:32 AM

Putting parts on your car caused you to lose sleep?

fitcious 05-31-2015 02:50 AM

looks like a mad max vehicle! (not in a bad way)

Rather, no time for sleep.

This lovely morning:
http://i1364.photobucket.com/albums/...psqbgfmrlx.jpg

You can imagine the feeling of wanting to drive your car after a month of sitting in the shop, workin on it after hours.

Last 3 days I worked straight pretty much.

Braces 05-31-2015 10:07 AM

I applaud your effort.

Bergen23 05-31-2015 10:15 AM

Ugh. Those widths do not match the offsets. You could have been wider, with higher offsets and not needed the universal flares. Also, unless you're making some decent power, that's probably too much tire. But whatever floats your boat I guess.

Drop it down a little ;)

Ew.

Brndn704 05-31-2015 12:05 PM

not trying to be negative or anything, just giving criticism. Those fenders look like they were just cheaply "stuck" on. You honestly would've done better with the rocket bunny kit. Whatever you like though.

chulooz 05-31-2015 12:17 PM

I like the fender look; the whole car looks nice save for missing center caps.

If you are going to the track (which?) I am wondering why you went with 9.5inches up front and 11inch steamrollers in back - it looks mean but that isnt a performance setup, you've got enough rubber for two cars.

eddiev116 05-31-2015 12:56 PM

Looks good. Reminds me of a TC. Also like the toyota badge on the trunk. Nice job.

Hey now! I've got 11's in the front and back of my car!

Yeah, but for you, form over function. For the OP, this is a seriously confused build where the owner completely miscalculated the offsets and got some cheap, universal flares.

Edit: and he still has ricey looking poke

Vracer111 05-31-2015 01:23 PM

Congratulations on the finish. Personally I would have kept the trunk and spoiler all red and no flares/wide wheels and tires. One thing I'm curious of is the front bumper cover...is that just a stock one that's been worked over? I really like how that front bumper was done, any more details/pictures of the work done on it?

Packofcrows 05-31-2015 01:34 PM

I like. Wish trunk was red. Kinda looks like long rear window. Cant help but remind me of

hamzam 05-31-2015 04:00 PM

I wish these flares were cheaply stuck on, but they are bolted on using nutserts. As cheap as the flares may have been in cost, it does not reflect their quality, which is superb. JDMflares.com . Cool guy, easy to deal with.

And I've been a fan of Datsuns/old-school Japanese cars since I was a kid.

This is my manifestation.

Quarters are cut, welded/boxed. Front flares has to sit .5" higher than rear due to the fact they are made for a Datsun Z. I will drop the front a little, but will have to get camber plates to allow for clearance. I don't plan to go lower than that.

As for my "miscalculations", once I paid for the wheels (and was locked into a 50% refund contract) my rears were not available in the original offset I wanted, had to go 10mm closer to the chassis (from -16 to -6).

Tires are technically supposed to be 245/35 up front and 285/30 in the back. I have 245/40's up front and 285/35's in the back.

Don't care for spacers, so no corrections.

Which tracks, Watkins Glen is close, Limerock, and Stafford Motorway couple times a year. Other than that, I will Autocross locally on Sunday mornings.

Front lower rail extension (behind front tires) also boxed to allow for full lock capabilities.

I'm happy with the look, which was my goal. this is my daily and I don't want to go crazy low. Also, Rocket Bunny is nice, but this was my plan from the get go.

Still have to add canards, rocker extensions, and finish up rear cover trim.

If you like it, cool, if you don't, that's completely understandable: it was meant to make me happy at the end of the day.

I don't mind criticism of hate, it's part of this world.

Ok, so point one, you still bought flares that don't actually properly fit the car, and you modified neither component (car, or flare) to fit them as you wanted to. What's the point of that? If I was hacking up my fenders, I'd be doing it right once.

Why would you want a -16 offset in the rear, when your flares are barely over top of the -6? If you went with a 18x11 or even 18x12 in a +15 to +25, you could have a bigger wheel that actually fits under the fender. This is even more pronounced in the front. It's crazy that you went with a +5 and only went 9.5 inches. Could have done a 10.5 or 11 with a +10 to +25.

Not sure what you mean with the tire size comment, does that mean you ordered the wrong tire sizes as well?

Sorry for such an overly negative post, but just trying to wrap my head around why you'd go through the trouble of ordering poorly sized and fitting wheels just as an excuse to stick cheap looking flares onto the car. I get that you love the Z, but there's plenty of other widebody solutions for this platform that you wouldn't have to compromise on.

Dake 05-31-2015 06:10 PM

I can appreciate the work for sure. You put some real time and consideration into it. Having the roof and back window flow into the trunk lid is really interesting. It gives it a fastback look reminiscent of the fifth/sixth gen Celica.

My only personal critique is the front lip, but it's not just yours specifically. One of the things I like about the FR-S lip are the "fangs". Many of the kits really seem to absorb them and yours does away with them altogether which isn't my cup of tea.

Still, the only measure of success is whether you come outside and just stop and look and it sounds like that's the case. Congrats!

I can see that you have put a lot of work into this build to achieve your dream. IMO it looks better and makes at least as much functional sense as any rocket bunny. Plus I am betting it adds a lot less weight. I does remind me a bit of the Datsun 240Z with the bolt on flares. If that is the look you were chasing then you nailed it.

Well, actually, a real widebody would let him shove his wheels under the fenders properly. Since they would have made the fender significantly wider. Something like 60mm front and rear.

BAMF86 05-31-2015 06:29 PM

I can appreciate the work that went into this build. But since you're going for a track build, wouldn't it have been a better choice with a square wheel setup?

I can't imagine the awful understeer you would get with this staggered setup. Not to mention 285 tire is overkill for stock power unless you're running boost.

NWFRS 05-31-2015 07:04 PM

I DO like that re-worked front bumper.

...that's all I'm going to say... :)

AC13_JohnG 05-31-2015 07:18 PM

As a former body man and painter I give you a thumbs up on the work. I like it, ultimately as long as you like in the end that is all that matters.

Tromatic 05-31-2015 07:40 PM

As idiotic as I think a full RB looks, at least it's complete and fits. I think you win for the oddest proportions yet. Your car has a very subtle wrongness I've not seen anywhere else.

But the rocket bunny exposes the front of the tire which creates just as much drag as this design does. It does not matter if you enclose the top side of the tire. Both flares are doing that. The rb is a form over function design which is only suitable for drift where speed and drag is not much of a factor. The rb also uses a lot more material so they are heavier.

I also prefer this look over the rb. Of course, looks are just a matter of opinion.

Is that your MR2 on your profile picture? DO you still have it? I wanna see that!

Well I only live about a 1/2 hour north of you now so if you want to see it then you can do so in person, LOL. So as not to take this thread off topic just send me a PM.

roddy 05-31-2015 08:28 PM

As long as it makes you happy, that's what counts.

My opinion...looks better than a RB, and my eyes thank you for not sticking a big giant wing on it. Yes, the wheels/tires are a little sticky-outy, I don't care for the (diffuser?) treatment on the roof, and I couldn't bear cutting my car for the flares, but that's just me. It kind of reminds me of early IMSA cars. The red and black work well together, the block off plate for the right exhaust cutout is cool, and the front bumper looks good as well.

Don't put a big wing on it...
