225 vs 215 on oem wheels?
I've read some where that it doesn't really matter and do go with what's cheaper. I've heard that wider would benefit if you autox. I've heard that 215s would benefit if you track. Which would benefit for street use but still want cornering stability and speed, for "fun" driving
Edit, my car is making 250whp to the wheel |
spiritually driving? what is that
get the 225s :) |
I put a 245 drag radial on my oem rear wheels however I wouldnt recommend it for anything but drag. Id say get 225s or 235s

Happy with the 215's on my car (Dunlop ZII Star Spec), unless somebody posts with direct experience I would just do what you want.
General consensus is that the wider tire on the same size rim will have more sidewall flex, this typically results in better mechanical grip as the tire sticks to the ground better, but to do so that sidewall 'mushes' around resulting in a feeling of lost precision and feedback. Autocross guys restricted on wheel sizes seem to always go for the biggest tire they can for maximum mechanical grip. Edit what tire are you looking at? It has at least a little to do with the result and may change your responses. |
225 vs 215 on oem wheels?
Well, I recently went with nitto motive tires 225 all around. Thinking I would love them, I wasn't to satisfied. They somewhat hydroplane, shoot rocks and chips upward. Although the grip is somewhat good. I think I should have gone with Michelin pilot sport..

Im boosted so yes I can get the car to fish tail and drag radials at high speeds in the rain are super sketchy. Like squeeze your butt cheeks and hope for the best sketchy haha. If you want cornering response go 225/45 all around and buy good compound tires toyo r888s michelin PSS etc |
I drive on 225/45 michelin pss on all four with the oem wheels and oemish power. The car doesn't bring the backend out unless I try, for example dropping to 2nd mid turn.
|
I just ordered 224/45 PSS on OEM wheels and will let you know any experiences I have with them after the install. Should be on the car sometime this week.
|
Well, I guess its about high time to get to Discount Tire and order me some 225/45s :D
