A Question For Those That Have Replaced the Factory Headunit

If you have replaced the factory headunit with an aftermarket unit..........does the FM reception still suck? My factory headunit has probably got the worst FM reception of any car I have owned and I have tried numerous antennas with no improvement at all. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ht=White64Goat

How is the reception with the 2015 model factory sharkfin?

Haven't noticed much of a difference between the units, but I thought the factory one was decent enough for reception. :(

the stock antenna is a powered antenna. mine works great both before and after HU.
Maybe you antenna is not getting powered?

The FM reception hasn't been all that great for me since I'm right on the border of the analog and HD signal so it will go in and out of HD range. You can really tell a difference when that happens. I upgraded to a Pioneer 8000-NEX and also swapped out the stock pencil antenna for the OEM sharkfin antenna. I would say FM reception is the same when all is said and done.

That's the first I've heard that........why do you think it is powered?

Chimera 05-28-2015 10:54 PM

Because when you run an after market stereo the adapter has the standard antenna cable plus a blue power line. It's possible that your antenna isn't being powered, it would still work but not nearly as well.
If it's still all stock stuff your dealer may be willing to look into it under warranty, but if they don't find anything they will likely charge a diagnostic fee.

I have not messed with the antenna side but it is likely possible to determine if it is getting power from the antenna itself if you have a dmm. I am on business travel or I'd do a quick check myself. Maybe someone else knows.. Or Google.
