Possible to matte black paint a lip and it look decent?

I bought a replacement STi style lip off of eBay to replace one that I lost on the highway. I received it and it has a scuff mark on the surface so I contacted the seller to return it. They can't guarantee that a replacement won't have the same issue so they said they will refund me and I can keep the lip.

I am going to try to work with it to make it presentable.. Will some spray primer and matte black look ok? Has anyone tried this before?

Yeah it is totally possible. One thing I did, and this is not required at all, is I sanded mine down and then plastidipped it. It can out looking great. I'd upload an example but Tapatalk and ft86club have very strict limits to image quality/size.

How durable is plastidip though? Not concerned about the rare bottom scrape. More concerned with the road pebbles hitting the top/front. Pls post pic if u can

Not very. In the time I've had the lip (2 years), I've resprayed it twice and I think it is due for a respray now. I don't know if you are able to enlarge my profile picture. That is my car with the lip. If not, then I will try and crop a picture

A very cropped and crappy pic for reference.

That looks good but durability is no good which I don't really want to deal with. I was leaning towards sanding->primer->quality matte black spray paint.

Yeah since I have to respray soon, I will probably go with a higher quality spray. You don't have to use plastidip, your question was just about matte black. I've tried the glossifier and it just was not for me.

On my previous STi, i also had a polyurethane front lip that i painted.

I used a fine sandpaper to rough up the surface and used methyl hydrate to degrease and clean it. I used a matte black paint specifically made for plastic bumpers and it held up well. Make sure you prep properly and use multiple light coats as opposed to one thick one.

Something like this.
