How long should I wait until moving onto next person in a sale?

Back story: I am selling an item on the board and was contacted via PM that he/she wanted it and agreed on a price. I PMed my cellular and my email address and no response. I waited a couple of days and asked if he/she wanted it and stated that if I don't hear from him/her, I would move to the next person on the list. I checked to see when the time he/posted something and it was within an hour of me checking it.

Question is, should I give more time or state that there has been zero communication since that time and I will move on. I just don't want to burn anyone on this site after I promised them it's theirs.

Just want your opinions. Thanks in advance.

It's business. If he hasn't paid and someone as is willing to sell it.

Thanks. Moved on to the next buyer.

I sell things on Kijiji pretty often, and I have a strict policy: the first person to place money in my hand gets the item.

If someone emails me with intent to buy at 11AM and says they'll be there at 1PM, but someone else emails at 11:30AM and shows up at noon, then the latter person gets the item.

So how does the first person avoid falling victim to this? They can either send cash right away with an e-transfer, or they can buy a faster car and try to get there first. I don't care about intent, or how busy the person is. You want something from me? Give me money before someone else does.

I'll never forget the time that I gave in to a college student's sob story about how she needed a fridge really bad and would pay me to deliver it. I got a roommate to help me load it into the truck (it was a full-size fridge), and then just before leaving I called her to confirm she was home, and got no answer. She never got back to me and I had to unload the fridge and wait for another buyer. Never again.

I always give people 24 hours to respond.

Your item. Your call. Usually first come first served. But at the same time you don't want five people racing towards your location.
Just don't be the "best offer gets it" guy and then get only an offer of $1 and not sell it.
