Review: Diode Dynamic FRS Always-On Module

I recently purchased the Diode Dynamics FRS Always-On Module.

It was like roughly 40 dollars and it's pretty high quality.

The package came with a sticker, the module, shipping stuff, and some instructions.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...fc4d500f1bac36

To Install....

First Pop the hood and locate one of the headlight plugs and unplug it. I chose to do it on the driver side.

https://scontent-lax1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...d8&oe=55CDBF07

Connect one of the module ends to the headlight wire. There is only one way it will fit.

https://scontent-lax1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...7a&oe=5604E822

Connect the other end to the car.

https://scontent-lax1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...f6&oe=55C2805B

Turn on your head lights.

https://scontent-lax1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...3c&oe=55C9FCB4

The only problem I had was taking off the plug because it was pretty tight. The only confusion I had was I didn't know which way to turn to increase/lower brightness but once you start turning it you'll find out.

Overall, high quality product. 10/10 would buy again.

oh, didn't realize the FRS and BRZ modules were different. I really like the FRS module. For my BRZ, I had to connect behind both headlights and had to run a wire from the fuse box, and between both headlights. It looks kind of lame with a wire coming out of the fusebox even though I tried tucking the wire away as best as I could, lol

86geek 05-22-2015 09:13 PM

Is this only for the monogram series?

asdf 05-22-2015 09:21 PM

I was considering this purchase... only necessary to plug in on one side?

Should work for 10 series and RS 1.0 too

Yes.

I don't own a monogram or RS 1.0. So it can't work with just a base line FRS. :(

So I just found out that it can't dim... not sure why.

Sharpe978 05-24-2015 12:56 AM

Where can i find the FRS mod on their website? All i can find is the always on mod for the BRZ.

mush 05-24-2015 05:27 AM

Can you elaborate? Was it stuck on a single brightness setting? Or it doesn't dim brightness when switching from daytime to low-beam?

Yeah... I'm not sure why they took it down. You can find it here....

It's stuck on max brightness. I was at an 86 meet and when we tried adjusting it, it didn't make any difference. I sent them an E-mail.

That sucks, did you get a new one yet?

Isn't the BRZ one different than the FRS one?

funwheeldrive 05-27-2015 03:04 AM

Does this have the potential to harm the headlights or car? It sounds like the product is pretty poor quality.

kbye 05-27-2015 03:13 PM

Thanks for the reviews. I think I'll just get the Beatsonic version instead (I don't need adjustability).

NyC Zn6 05-27-2015 04:36 PM

tbh I have the BeatSonic DRL and it is perfect. literally 10 seconds to install on passenger side. they function with 100% brightness without headlight on and 50% brightness with the headlight on. imo having them 100% brightness with headlights is overkill especially for other drivers.

the new unit worked for a little bit, then it was stuck at max brightness... they said theres a small flaw that will get fixed

It may just reduce the life of the LEDs since they're on more.

I'm getting an RMA... I hope this new one has the problem fixed.

HATED1 05-28-2015 01:11 PM

Any word if this will work on the WINJETS?

Any idea if they work with the BRZ?

They have an equivalent product for the BRZ.

I have it, it works flawlessly. Installation is like a minute...? Never adjusted it except to try it.

Just install and enjoy.

N1rve 05-31-2015 05:18 PM

Update, got new RMA Part. It works flawlessly! :)

Top-Secret 06-24-2015 05:22 PM

they always seem to be out of stock when i look on the site. sad face

atonomie 06-25-2015 07:26 AM

I preordered this and when I got it, it worked but couldn't adjust the brightness. RMA'd and got a replacement and it worked - brightness was adjustable. Days later, turn on headlights, they are back to full brightness again. Adjustable dial doesn't do anything.

This just didn't work out for me. Requested another RMA and requested store credit. Going to get the 6000K HID bulbs replacement instead.

I had ordered the beatsonic version after the first RMA and they are going back on.

Papi 07-01-2015 04:26 PM

Will the beat sonic work on the BRZ

Bimble Bamble 07-03-2015 10:38 PM

This is a great mod. At max brightness setting at night you can see the road with no lights on and it looks sick!

Monkey_Boy 07-04-2015 01:06 AM

I put this on my BRZ Limited a few months ago and have had no issues. The BRZ version does require you to string a cable between the headlights, and that was the most challenging part. I did not want it to be visible, so I removed (and then replaced) a few bits in the center under the hood latch until I had room to thread the plug and wire through. After that, no wires show at all.

After a bit of brightness adjusting, I am really pleased with the mod. Gives it the look it should have had from the factory! Diode does good work, and I'm sure they worked with anyone who had early troublesome versions of this mod. I've ordered a couple of things from them and always had great results.

Is it still working ok? Been waiting for them to bring it back to market but guessing they are having trouble with the units. I had to use google to find it on their website...

I returned it after my 2nd one came apart. Literally the wires came out. I'm using a beat sonic one and is problem free.

I got my refund on this by disputing on my AMEX. Diode was going to charge me 5 dollars restocking fee since I said I wasn't satisfied.

Wow thats a serious design flaw, normally dd is on the ball in fact all the lighting stuff on my car is from them, but it seems these specific products made just for the brz/frs have failed constantly.

I had problems with my DD Foglight kit... lol. Oh wells.

atonomie 01-20-2016 05:49 AM

I ordered this when it first released and the brightness didn't adjust and stayed at 100%. Got a replacement and it worked fine for a couple weeks then again, brightness went back to full 100% and couldn't adjust.

Since I was out of the return date when it failed, I guess I'm going to have to wait for the fix and get a new one under warranty or something. It has been months and I don't care for it anymore since I ended up getting the beat sonic one and its been perfect.

Everyone is talking about the @Beat-Sonic version of this mod but I haven't been able to find it online anywhere... :sigh:

Jesus. Are you even capable of using fucking google? Literally the first result on google after searching for "beat sonic scion frs" led me to their website's product page. Admittedly, it was only showing shark fin antennas though. Then, I typed in what kind of car I was looking for parts for. Then, I found this.

Typing this post took longer than searching for the damn thing. I hope your mommy tucks you in extra tight, so that you can't hurt yourself during the night.

@go_a_way1 some people's fucking kids...

Wow. Dude. Calm down and read my post again. Everyone is talking about the module for a BRZ. Of course there is one for the FRS that is EASILY found. But I'm looking for the one for the BRZ that everyone is talking about. Granted, this post is for the FRS, but there are people mentioning it for the BRZ in the DiodeDynamics thread as well.

Again, if you looked at their website, you'd see that they don't make one for the BRZ. The FRS one could be compatible with the BRZ, but I don't know if it is.
