Introduction - Hello All
Hey Everyone
My name is Paul and I recently purchases a 2015 FRS in Raven. I'm hoping to take delivery of it next week. I bought the car primarily for lapping and HPDE. I have a Chev van for the daily duty so I wanted something different and more capable that what I was used to. I'm coming from a 2010 Mazdaspeed3 that was heavily modded for track duty. After doing many builds for people I decided instead of trying to overcome the shortcomings of that chassis it was better to just get another chassis. I'm hoping to get my break in done the following week after delivery swapping all the fluids over Motul and looking to tear the tires up at TMP. Does anyone here have much track experience with this chassis and if you do is there anything to watch out for? :thanks: |
flush brake fluids, use higher temp ones, get better pads and you're good to go.
And welcome to the club. |
Oil cooler, better pads, better fluid. I would do those before swapping out the factory oil and gearbox/diff fluids.
I would suggest doing at least one lapping day on the stock tires to learn the balance of the car as well. You'll eventually want better tires, and a different alignment as well. Stock shocks/springs do pretty well, even with sticky tires. |

Any recommendations for an oil cooler? I like the idea of the Skunk 2 rad with the built in oil cooler but I don't know if there is a necessary advantages over say the Mishimoto one. I really enjoyed the balance of the factory setup. I was going to wear the tires out completely before looking into something else. |
I don't know if anyone has really tested the Skunk2 one on a track, keep in mind for that one you still need a sandwich plate and lines, it only includes the bare rad.
The Skunk2 one is nice because it'll also heat up the oil faster, but if it isn't effective with track use then it's not a great option. I like the Mishimoto one because they have a thermostat in the sandwich plate so it doesn't keep the oil too cold on the street, but I've heard good things about the Jackson Racing one too. |
I ordered a Mishimoto non thermostat oil cooler from BRZ World. Hoping to pick it up this week. I got the non thermostat since I wanted a little of a pressure drop as possible from the oil cooler and since the car is primarily for track and won't be driven in the winter I didn't see the extra cost to be worth it.
Any brake pad recommendations for tracking with the stock tires? Also how do I thank posts, I can't seem to find a thank button unless I'm just blind. |
@TRAKRAVN it'll be come available as you increase in post count :)

Hey Paul.
I guess the rumour is true that you finally got an FRS. Lol. Derek |

Mostly TMP, occasionally DDT and maybe once or twice a year at MIR. Fluid will mostly likely be SRF. Tires will be stock until next season at the very least.
My skill level I would say is intermediate. I have competed at CASC And Signa Time attack events. |
