This blows...

Literally. Just went to Walgreens to get some Rockstars. Had the same CD in the CD player for basically 2 weeks and on my way home I noticed my front driver door speaker is blown. I recently set the headunit to FR-S and turned the bass +1 and treb +2. The balance is even set +1 tot he right. Volume wasn't even at 25. Totally sucks.

Bass +5, Treb +3....but my volume is never over 15, cause it doesn't need to be. I figured the speakers wouldn't handle it, as the material looks to be lower end.

That sucks man.

What was the automatic speed leveling thingy set to?

This doesn't give me much hope, my volume is often above 25, my bass is at +1 and the treble is at - 3. But I keep the ASL set to off. The parts aren't available yet for to install a single din so I'm stuck with stock until then.

Seems light this is happening quite often. I crank mine up high like in the 50s n it sometimes still doesn't seem loud enough :iono:

+5 Bass, +4 Treb, routinely have mine in the 40's 50's without too much issue. Nothing blown and doesn't sound too bad.

The speakers are very low in the door.

Bad for listening.

You probably have a speaker wire grounding out.

Either that or you've been hot dogging it too much and the G forces pulled out the connection.

I was hearing some nasty sounds from my speakers on a few songs, too. However, when I re-played the songs at HIGH volumes on my home theatre, I could hear that same distortion. Turns out the mp3s had clipping in them. The Scion radio seems to take bad mp3s and make them worse. Check your music. I think the speaker problems have more to do with bad mp3s than too loud radio stations.

After going back and trying to hear it when I wasn't half asleep I think something is just loose. I don't hear it all the time, but it comes and goes.

The system seems OK overall. Sometimes it needs to be louder but I never want to crank it over 30 really for this fear. I'm gonna try to figure out my problem today

the distortion kills the speakers - even the good ones. i play off the ipod always so its not too bad - and im always in the 20-30's....

sucks though -- take it back to the dealer and make a big stink asap.

I'm getting a little bit of popping from the dash speakers but it seems like it is only on certain songs.
I have yet to crank the volume way up, so I doubt the speakers are blown already.

Is anyone else seeing this issue?

From my experience with my FR-S, yes. After you say "yes" it's from mp3's, I'm going to ask where you got them from. Honestly, you could PM me if you want to keep it private.

I'm going to guess the mp3s were not from iTunes or something. If you got them online from a various source, YouTube, or another place, the mp3s are probably poor quality. Listen to them on another stereo (not laptop speakers) and I'm sure you'll hear the distortion in the same spots of the songs, but not as noticeable. The FR-S' audio system makes small bad things WORSE!
