2015 wrx vs 2015 gti vs ford focus st best all around dd and autocross

I think its time that i am looking to trade my frs. Need a 4 door but i want something that's still fun to drive but is comfortable. I am leaning towards the mk7 with performance pack. Also open to used and certified preowned

ISF, B8 S4, CTS-V.

If your debating Focus ST, wait for the Focus RS.

I was on the same boat, and ended up buying a low mile B7 RS4.

You aren't including the ATS. You can get an awd turbo 4 for ~45

Not many people talk about E90's 335i's. You can get it in RWD or AWD. Stupid fast with a tune and a nice size aftermarket. I had a friend pick up an almost base 335i for $18k with 60k miles.

I'd get the Focus ST. The Focus RS will have a nice size dealer markup when it comes out, also i doubt it'll be easy to attain, though i hope to be proved wrong.

I don't know your price range, but there is also the Chevy SS.

jflogerzi 05-22-2015 08:01 PM

Sadly price range is 30k max.

Hold onto the FR-S then...

Trade up when you are less upside down or have more equity or more down payment.

Its not like you are driving a beater.

I don't really consider any of those cars you listed an upgrade unless you *NEED* AWD or FWD due to snowy conditions. And if you location is correct, I don't see that being an issue.

Now if you need a 4 Door now...that is a different story.

Audi S3 seems fun, 4 doors, but no MT. Wait till their price plunges 2 years from now or when the RS3 hatch comes to the states.

DAEMANO 05-22-2015 11:43 PM

ATS 2.0T all the way.

gfmobile is a 15' gti. Its a hell of a nice dd, our other strong contender last fall was a fiesta st. At the time given the focus and gti were similarly priced the gti was an automatic win with the new mk7 changes. Fiesta had enough of a price differential to separate itself.

Wrx on our end was never looked into for a second just because no hatch, otherwise it may have been in the driveway now.

Performance pack gti may be interesting for autox, haven't seen other than stockish mk7 gti's at events yet though.

My bro just traded his frs for a 2015 wrx and I'm not going to lie it made me consider it. The frs is definitely better at handling and driver connectedness as well as looks but the wrx has more features that are nice, a better interior, nice turbo pull feel, 4 actual seats, and a ton of room. If I were to change it would be the wrx hands down man

Of those 3, forget the WRX.

The GTi is a better overall car and the Focus is almost as good but more "fun" and less refined.

The other suggestion of an e9x 335i is right on point. They're going for pennies on the dollar and are surprisingly quick, nicely refined, surprisingly low maintenance and can be had in many configurations, RWD/AWD, coupe/sedan and manual/auto. Pre-facelift can be had easily for under $20k and post-facelift are anywhere from $20k to $40+ for an IS coupe.

There are also many e9x M3s in the $25-30k range that would make a mockery of any other car suggested in this thread.

Wait for a used Golf R.

Will look into these. Talking to the wife. Will need to weight my options.
