BP3D Competition first races completed and podiums!

Well guys, here are the results of our first race with the FRS, qualified 2nd and finished 2nd in the first race and 3rd in the second race. Very pleased with the overall outcome, we were not even done doing our final settings, the car was just barely painted and tested. The test day the day before went well and we didn’t have a single problem with the car, I believe this is one of the first race weekend we ever had where we didn’t have any wrenching to do. Here are some pics of the weekend.

nice shots. how did the 720Form wheels do? I'm looking into picking up a set myself.

puma 05-19-2015 06:30 PM

so far so good, we had a hit in the rear wheel, bent something in the suspension, wheel cracked but tire still retained it's air. No clue how that was possible but it did, i'll try to upload some pics tonight or tomorrow of the wheel.

They are easily bendable though as they are really light, just like the rpf1 but at least they cost a lot less.

PS: Did you lose your passenger side mirror during the races?

yeah we did, about half way through the last race, the miror came loose and in one particular turn, everytime he got there the miror would turn once and after a couple of laps there was no more thread and we can see it clearly on the camera that the mirror goes flying accross the track. We are going to put the stock mirrors back in, driver says he can't see anything in those and they are always out of adjustement.

We are always looking for partners for funding but we are so much out of time that we never get any chance to go run around for some sponsorship. The driver is the owner and he has a business so it is better for him to spend some time working on his business than running around for some sponsorship. And personnally i have so much with just prepping the car and the stuff that i don't really feel like running around to find him some money either...

We knew that as long as the car wasn't done and we didn't prove ourself that it would be hard to get some help, i know as a business person i would be scared to partner with someone who may not even end up on the track so we needed to get some results first.

I'm not looking to sponsor, just willing to chip in to help ft86 club members race.

Michele Abbate ran a pretty successful funding campaign on the Dark Horse Pros website if you guys ever decide that
you need to raise significant funds in a hurry.

hmm i didn't know about that thing, we aren't actively looking for now as our racing here is much cheaper than running from state to state but having partners for the car's development would be great.

What series is this run in?

Check out http://Spec86.com and our FB group for details.

this is a serie which happens mostly in Quebec Canada, it is called the Super Production Challenge, basically, cars of 12 years old or younger compete against each other based on a power/weight ratio which is the main rule. Ratio is adjusted depending on if you have big brakes, power adder, aero, rwd-fwd-awd, 4 doors etc.

@puma, have you had any more interesting experiences with the 720Form GTF1s over the past month or so that you can divulge?

When you say that you "had a hit in the rear wheel", do you mean a hit by another car or a hit against a curb or bump or something?

That series sounds like a lot of fun btw. I wish there were something similar in Ontario (or maybe there is and I'm just ignorant...).

puma 06-29-2015 04:05 PM

hit by an other car, pretty violently. We had an other wheel bend a little bit after a grass expedition but it still runs, the guy that balances our wheels doesn't like it but my driver didn't complain of vibration so far so... We would not run in on the street though.

We had RPF1 before and they didn't bend like those, the RPF1 broke, it seems like they were more brittle than the 720Form although a tiny bit lighter....

For the price, you can't go wrong with the GTF1. Also, RPF1 weren't available in the correct offset we needed in Canada. And we can get a new GTF1 in one day if we brake one since 720Form is located here in Québec.
