Info/comparison for potential buyer.
 

hi, I really like the Scion FRS ( manual), and will probably buy one. I just have some questions.

would recommend it for someone looking for more quickness? I have only owned Rav4's and Camry's( big fan of Toyota) and looking for something faster on the highway, IE going around grandma doing 50 in a 65mph highway. Is there a Huge difference in speed and highway agility?

i drive about 35-60 miles one way to work every day, about 30k a year. would the FRS be a decent car for commuting ? ( 80% highway 20% city)

You're lucky if you get this car to enjoy daily for long commuting. It's a perfect true sport car w/200hp lightweight and save gas at the same time; 2nd to none in budget sport car engineering design !

i have no idea how to compare a Camry to this - but thats two different things. The Camry is fast too in the straigh-ahead but it wont break any speed records and you may look dum trying ..

but to answer your questions, if you dont have a need to ever take more than 1 xtra person anywhere.. and its basically just you and someone and occasionally will take the drunk relative home after a party -- then go and get the FRS.
this will get better milage than the camry/rav4 -- and its a whole lotta fun all the way around.

how is the cargo room with the seats down? could it hold a cooler, a small tent, 2 camping chairs, and a duffle bag of clothes?

Yes, it could hold that.

I have both a 2012 Camry v6 and BRZ. The Camry is definitely more powerful and much more comfortable. Its my DD and for long distance. The BRZ however is more agile and so much quicker off a red light. So much more fun driving around town than on the freeway. Either way, you'll enjoy the great hwy fuel economy and turn lots of head for now.

I had to pass someone going up a 7% grade (it's steeper than it sounds). I dropped it into 5th at 67mph - nothing. Dropped it into 4th - glorious sound of 5k rpm under load, but wasn't taking off. I needed 3rd gear (!) but I'm still in break in period, so keeping revs below 5k (absolute) with my shift light set for 4k (reminder).

It scoots along fine at lower speeds on flat ground, but I'm guessing the power is all up high for the real fun. (I hope!).

This doesn't make for a very good highway car. Worlds better than my Miata, but not the comfort, space, or power of a V6 beigemobile. Honestly, I'd look more at the WRX ($25 base) if you want a blend of power and sport.

Agreed with Figgy. Definitely, according to your description (a lot of highway miles daily, sticking with TOYOTA), you should get a Camry or RAV4 V6. Or Avalon.

Downshift twice and you wont have an issue. After the break in that is. Lol. But a Camry would probably do that job a bit better

i'm still pretty young (27) and don't have kids (only a med sized dog). so i will probably go with the FRS over a V6 Camry.
i used to have a Camry v6 and ,my current v4 Camry. It's just I am really tired of the family sedan, i feel like i'm driving a boat even if it's a faster boat :)
This would ( Frs) be my first manual and/or sporty car, so im excited but still a toss up because i don't know what to expect. so thanks for all the opinions. i will really consider what you guys said.

I just took a road trip to Baton Rouge, LA from Tampa FL (Stopping in Gulf Breeze, FL for a night both ways) and its a great road trip car. On the way up I had some slight neck discomfort after driving for like 3-4 hours but I didn't notice any on the way back. As for the power, its adequate once you get the engine broken in and can rev it into the 6-7k range, gas mileage is good as you could easily get over the 30mpg on the highway cruising at 70-75 (You get right at about 30 if you're cruising 80). I was quite surprised with the cargo room. With the seats folded down I had two medium sized suit cases, two bowling bags, a small cooler and some other random items and snacks.

I have a WRX. Still have to shift to 3rd to pass easily on the highway (turbo is still all high rpm).

If you want highway power and not willing to put $ into modification, this car is not for you.
