Thud/Clunk when shifting.

Hey all,

Posted before with a slight issue and got a lot of helpful responses.

I find that I'm hearing a thud/clunk when shifting into 2nd, 3rd...sometimes 4th almost every time. Seems to be coming from the back end of the car.

I've been driving stick exclusively for the past four years, and while I can't claim to be flawless at it, on my better days I can string together a fair amount of smooth shifts.

I've never had a RWD car and unfortunately I'm a novice at understanding the mechanics of a transmission (always open to learning more).

Hoping for some input. Car is an FR-S of course in case anyone should wonder.

TY in advance.

im sure its normal. My Cooper S did that and its made by BMW. Just a sports car clunk you usually get, if i remember the Aston Martin DBS and V12 vantage also did that to me.. So nothing to worry about mate :)

I think its like drive shaft play or somthing, My jeep did it to. Never have i experienced it with a fwd car though.

Were working on a solution right now. I have some prototype bushings in our shop BRZ and so far so good. :) Will keep everyone posted when they will be avail for purchase through our dealer networks.

My guess is you're unloading the drivetrain too quickly. Try depressing the clutch pedal slightly slower.

Thud I'm used to. In fact I let the drive train stop spinning before I put it in gear. It's the chirping at an idle that annoys me. :mad0259:

I think after driving around in the car more that that is the case. If I'm super nice on a shift, I won't always hear it.

The idle sound is kind of lame - agreed. :)
