I got a BlackVue DR500GW-HD a while back with black magic pro (so if car is off and it shakes or someone walk in front, it'll start recording). But I think it's expensive, there are cheaper alternatives that works just as well.

It's nice to have software support though, I can grab the video off my phone asap, the camera has built in WiFi so it acts as a WiFi point that you can connect to. If you are close enough while car is off, you can stream what it's capturing from phone.

The mini series dashcams are pretty good for their price. However the one you linked was the first version to come out. You can get the latest version (0806) for around the same price. I have the 0806 and its great. You can check out my build journal for pictures on where I mounted it and a sample video of the quality

I have the Blackvue DR500W-HD, I would stay away from it. Mine seems to be bricked and I have no idea how to fix it.

Theres a huge thread on Redflagdeals though regarding dashcam suggestions that you should check out if you're really interested in purchasing one.

That sucks... :/ Did you contact Pittasoft about it? But I agree, I would look for something else if I'd to buy another one.

I'll drop this link here. https://dashcamtalk.com

Helped me a lot with making a decision on what to get.

Most of the newish dash cams have a great feature set and the quality is good enough IMO.

My dash cam has successfully caught someone backing into my car, so by saving me the deductible right there has already paid itself over twice...

If you wanna see how I wired it all together let me know and I can show you in person

Yes I did e-mail them but since I didn't have the original receipt as it was purchased for me while a friend was in Korea it would have been too much of a hassle plus shipping w/tracking would cost too much and take way too long.

So i'm just going to buy another dashcam and resuse my current wiring since I hardwired everything to the magic box already.

Also does anyone know if the magic box works for any dashcam? or just blackvue only devices

Should work but you need to check the min voltage of the new device vs. the cutoff voltage of the magic box (you don't want your dash cam to shutoff before the magic box does)

Should be fine, though

I have used the same dashcam for over a year now. it is very good so far except it felt from the windshield once, so i had to go to homedepot for a better 3M tape.
I also ran the wire hidden inside the panels and used the 12V outlet inside the glove box.
If you dig around, you will find one that is below $100 bucks. But there are knock off versions, you can go to dashcam.com to see which retailer sells the real one.
