LA Times Article on cracking down on Mods

Looks like they have formed a task force for this. I'm glad 86 owners generally realize this car is NOT for drag racing, and that people on these boards generally frown on racing on the street (not worth the tickets and cost of lives). However, modified does NOT equal street racing; no more than a 420 hp Mustang GT means racing.

It does not, but illegal mods are still illegal whether you are racing or not.

@ mav1178 I agree 100%, you sleep in the bed you make. But, it seems the effort is misplaced. The events like the article featured seems like where time and money would be better spent to crack down on racing.

What do they classify as 'illegal'?

Reminds me of this:
"This is an extract of an National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Army Lieutenant General Reinwald about sponsoring a Boy Scout Troop on his military installation.

Interviewer: "So, LTG Reinwald, what are you going to do with these young boys on their adventure holiday?"

LTG Reinwald: "We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting."

Interviewer: "Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?"

LTG Reinwald: "I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the range."

Interviewer: "Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?"

LTG Reinwald: "I don't see how, we will be teaching them proper range discipline before they even touch a firearm."

Interviewer: "But you're equipping them to become violent killers."

LTG Reinwald: "Well, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?"

Attacking cars for "Illegal" - what the lawmakers deemed illegal - mods to get racing down? These people have no brains or logic. Or they just want to get $$$ out of people who like to make their cars better.

Exactly this. They couldn't give a single shit about your exhaust being too loud, but they'll take every bit of your money that they can get away with.

Your neighbors probably care about your overly loud exhaust, but in the end, it's a money thing.

Loud exhausts are okay if you ride a Harley, they aren't okay if you drive an import :P

Oh my goodness... the article ends with this winner, "the asphalt wormhole". I've got one of those.

street racing has always been part of socal. street racing has always been inherently dangerous... but a lot of the kids these days are just straight up dumb shits and are completely reckless. im not gonna act like i never street raced when i was young, cuz i did street race, but damn... we weren't as reckless as the kids these days.

V_86 05-11-2015 03:09 PM

Let's be clear that street racing is dumb, illegal, and extremely dangerous and reckless. But what I was pointing out is that just because someone wants to customize their car, does not make them a street racer.

Unfortunately, this is how we are viewed. I have a cat-back and tail lights. Everyone wants to race me, and just because im driving quickly doesnt mean I want to race you...

And every cop now pulls in behind me for at least half a mile.

There are always those few people in every crowd, that ruin it for the rest of the crowd. This fact is inevitable.
