Axle diagnosis

so I was at the track with my boosted brz yesterday and it suffered a driveline issue. My gut tells me that it's a snapped axle, but I'm curious what your thoughtst are...

There is no power to the wheels but gears engage find
Under power you can hear a mechanical grinding type of metal on metal noise from the rear
There is no obvious break in the axle from the outside
With the back end off the ground and the car in gear, I can turn both drive wheels

Could it be the diff? Or would one broken inner cv still allow both wheels to spin freely

Thanks for the info

The inner CV breaking probably won't keep the wheel from spinning, depends on what gets broken where. However I'd put my money on a broken inner CV since it's what lots of others have broken. I'd say it's unlikely you broke something in the diff but anything is possible with enough power.

Just to add some closure to this, it was the inner cv shaft carrier looking thing that sheared into 3 pieces.

For anyone that is diagnosing it in the future, you will lose all drive to both wheels even though it's only one axle that is dead.

Lol no, Jesus must of been looking out for me that day because they somehow avoided catching fire and launching my car off of a cliff

IT COULD HAPPEN
