My Project Plan
So i'm quite new to working with cars. Aside from a few break and oil changes, i have pretty much no other experience. I've had my 2014 BRZ for a year now and loved every minute of it.
I'm planning to have 3k put aside for the car every year for mods and i would like to hear what everyone has to say about the order of which i get new parts. 2015: - Fumoto oil drain valve (installed) - Valenti Tail light + Bumper Light (Ordered) - Diode Dynamic Always On DRL Module (RMA) - Greddy SP Supreme Cat Back Exhaust - White LED Side Marker - Sharkfin Antenna - Window Tint - STi Front lip, side skirt and diffuser 2016: - Coil over - Break Kit 2017: (big upgrade) - AVO Stage 2 Kit - Wheel/Tire upgrade 2018: Interior upgrade(haven't really decided yet) Let me know what you think or what i'm missing! |

From my experience, get wheels before coils. Depending how low you go though.

get your wheels and tires before suspension. and I would reconsider doing a BBK (unless you just mean a regular upgrade which is like pads, rotors, fluid, etc) if your car isn't a dedicated track car. and if you want a good set of coilovers, be prepared to spend most of your year's budget on it. a BBK would cost like 2k+ alone for front and rears so if your budget is 2k, no way you're getting it along with coilovers lol
what I would do is get some lowering springs like RCE's and take it to the track to see how you like it. they're relatively cheap so you can fit it in your budget when you do wheels and tires (and provide a good upgrade from stock). no need to spend a lot on coilovers or wait a year or two for funds before fixing that ugly fender gap |
Coils worth having will be just shy of $2k to... well, more. Front bbk will be close, but more if you stay stock in the back and properly keep the same leads all around. If you're willing to shop used, you can save.
What are you doing with the car though? This seems to be a looks/bragging rights build? BBK isn't needed unless you're tracking, coils might better be springs (unless you're going with wheels that will needed the clearance)... At any rate, this looks like it scales well beyond 2k every year, with the possible exception of this year of you're doing the STI parts as knockoffs. You may want better tires with a good coilover. Seems a very ad hoc list to me, but maybe not - depends what your plans are. |
Like many others have said, wheels and tires first. It improves the handling and feel of the car much more than anything, at least in my opinion.
Also, drop-in filter. |
Clutch mod should be top priority, followed by oft tune, followed by autocross time.
Interesting idea, though. Think build order depends on your goals for the car. If don't know what you want, how can you be happy with the result? |
I feel that if your not tracking your car then the order doesn't really matter. Just my opinion though others will probably say different. Looks like you're doing cosmetics first then performance. I'm doing complete opposite. Really, I'm doing most expensive (hardest to save for) to least expensive in terms of performance.
I started with a turbo build, not tracking the car....yet. Just ordered a good set of coilovers RS-R Sports-i. Next I'm doing 17x9 wheels and tires, will be just a few more weeks before I get them. Then I'm going to do brake pads, fluid, and lines. I plan on tracking the car a little next yr if possible. Then I will worry about cosmetics. I know people will tell me I did my order completely wrong but that's ok. Whatever order you want to do your upgrades in is up to you, I know most people do cosmetics first along with suspension and wheels and tires. A BBK is not necessary for these cars though, unless you track often. |
