10 Series headlights flash high beams
 

So I just finished installing my 10 Series headlights on my normal 2014 FR-S, this past weekend. I did just notice, however, that when I turn my headlights on (low beams only) it flashes my high beams for a second. And it appears to do this everytime. I followed the guide on this forum to the letter and had no issues with the install....

I'm hoping that some of you auto wizards can help me.

Are the highbeams actually engaging or is it just the initial warmup of the HID?

@Andrew025, it is the highbeam. I notice that it takes a second for my 'fog' lights to turn on and the cut off line only appears after this 'blip' , for lack of a better term, happens. Additionally I have observed that this only happens when the DRL's are on; not if i am sitting there with the handbrake on....

How exactly did you wire them? Because I have a custom harness from a member one here and it required that I disconnect the DRL resistor box. The DRL's on our cars just give a small amount of power to the high beams, so that most likely has something to do with it.

I wired it per this link ... the harness deletes the DRL from what I heard, and it is required where I live, so that`s one reason I didn`t get the harness, the other is that the guy is unreachable.

Did you disconnect the DRL resistor? Per the DIY you followed:

"Tap into the live 12V side of the harness and leave the resistor unplugged so it does not feed the high beam actuator in the Japanese assembly.

Take the live side tapped wire to the LED high 12V wire on the Japanese headlight assembly so you get full 12V, and at the same time leave the socket off the resistor so it does not feed the High Beam actuator with attenuated voltage that normally powers the FRS high side halogen... (yes I said this twice to remind you)... "

If not, that's probably where your issue lies. The reduced voltage from the resistor is likely still enough to power the solenoid that lowers the bixenon shield.

might want to include a video because it does sound like the HIDs turning on. Might sorta burst on brightly and dim to the correct brightness

I have completely removed the DRL resistor... I am not overly bothered by it at this point, but I just want to make sure that it is not hurting anything.

well, the way high beams operate is that it lowers a shield to uncover the entire beam. the actual bulb does not do anything so it wouldn't harm your HID's (they do not like being turned on/off in quick intervals repeatedly) and at most, only add wear to your shield solenoid. I wouldn't worry about it though since the solenoid is designed to be used.

Another possible problem is that I believe the 10 series/monogram headlights are different than the GT86 headlights. So if that is correct, that could be causing a problem.
