Transmission issue
Okay so I know this topic has been beaten to death. Just wanted an opinion if I should bring my car in ...again.
So I have the issue of shifting from 2 to 3 getting that notchy feeling from time to time. Its like a 2 step shift and in between its like it gets caught then goes in. Happens some times not always. Not temperature dependent. About a week ago I was trying to shift to reverse from a cold start to go to work (ambient temp around 17C - fairly warm). For the life of me I couldnt get into reverse. Until like the 7th time it goes in. Hasnt happened since. ( okay ignore this, this seems to be normal) Just wanted some thoughts. Should I demand a new tranny? I have complained about the notchy feeling to the dealer before but they cant seem to replicate it. Car at about 18000 km. Thanks! |
You might try (if you already haven't done so):
* checking the transmission fluid level * checking the clutch adjustment * bleeding the clutch fluid system humfrz |
This is how the gates in my BRZ feel like:

demand a new transmission
|
^ I would say bug dealer all day
Or try a different trans fluid |
Oh I forgot to add. I did change to Motul tranny fluid after my break in period. That has generally helped make the tranny smoother overall, but the 3rd gear still occasionally been giving me problems.
Ya I guess I will bring it in again and hope they will do something. |
^ I had all kind of weird noise since new switch to motul and noise was completely gone even if I do hear it it very minimal now
|
When I brought mines in to the dealer the service rep replicate the noise once or twice, all they did was grease the shifter and wrote on my paper That they checked it and heard no noise that was some BS. Because when I drove my brother in law brz it made zero clunk noise what so ever.

If you already change the trans fluid, make sure u go straight to dealer management. On stock fluid it's only gonna be even worse.

Hey guys!
For those who have warranted a new transmission from a dealership, can you shed light on how the experience was like? Did the dealership try to deny your warrant, if so, what tactics did they use to deem that your transmission isn't "covered?" If not, were there any fees that had to be paid for? Thanks in advance! |
The service manager tried to avoid a tear down inspection by saying if there is nothing wrong there would be a $1,000 labor charges.
I got pretty upset at that and told them off. Even a technician of theirs said there was something wrong (hopefully that tech didn't get in trouble) I left the car there for Toyota's tech from HQ to come by (this is when the car was <1 year old) They inspected by 5th gear (which was the problem) and they saw the teeth were damaged ... Toyota covered the transmission replacement they left flywheel replacement on me though, not sure how my flywheel was "damaged" I had the clutch adjustment below my brakes for a few thousand miles ... and readjusted it back a shy bit above the brakes. I tried contacting toyota HQ and they just said that the transmission wasn't their fault and they were being "courteous" I just got tired of waiting for weeks to drive the car and i just paid for the replacement flywheel and got the transmission under their cover. Replace the transmission oil, my first gear SOMETIMES feels short like that ... but currently, since the swap, it feels nice and the same height. |
