Acceleration is achieved quicker
• A ‘slight’ increase in suction sound

• Retains the BRZ Excitement and Giggle Factor
• Worth the $50 Spent

I've owned enough cars to advise that what I posted is accurate. Nowhere did I mention any HP increase. I doubt there was any.

Can you explain how you think the car accelerates quicker if there wasn't a power increase?

What's the K&N part# ? I was thinking about picking one up.

Back to back 1/4 mile times in similar conditions with and without the filter, duh.

Just placebo effect. I usually replace the filter with a ITG foam one at the first service interval just so I don't need to change it again at the next ones.

If you want a giant metallic dildo under your hood, go the extra step and install a cold air intake.

It could be a heavier wallet when you don't have to replace your paper filter every 15k miles. I would've waited 'til 15k and replaced it with the K&N, then keep it for the life of the car. It should pay for itself after 45k. Power gains, though? Doubtful.

Hope you guys buying this filter like dust going into your engine, and reduced filtering capacity. Have a nice day.

Do yourselves a favor and use the Apexi filter over this because it's a dry element and costs the same or less.

I looked this up because I've been trying to find a reputable source of a dry filter...Somehow apex-i totally skipped my mind. I guess with even the best dry filters you have to deal with swapping it out every 15k miles?

i probably believe it sounds better - like the big assstruks with their big aftermarket filters... or the small motorcycles with the big K&N filters - each of those add some sound during acceleration - so i guess just for that effect .. is it worth 50 ? maybe. i wonder how the MPG is affected.
In a way, i think i have enough loud engine noise coming out of the bay.. id like to add some coming out of the exhaust instead !

Not a fan of the k&n sound, decent quality filter though.

NYC BRZ 06-18-2012 01:29 AM

Installed it before an autox it breaths better at higher RPMs but probably added 0 power.

At one point I also drank the Kool-Aid and had filters in every car and truck I owned.

I can attest that if you have a poorly designed air box on an agricultural vehicle (like an HD truck) a better flowing filter may add a bit of power. 0.5% of 400 HP is still a number, albeit infinitely small.

But my experience is with the filters is that they get clogged with dust. On a paper filter the loose particulate crap falls off the filter surface and into the air box, but the oil filters just mop it all up. While no one in their right mind would off-road an FR-S, dusty roads, wildfires, and gravel/salt spray clogged my K&N's a lot faster.

And even if I was super careful cleaning them, I always found a bit of oil downstream from the filter in the intake.
