For those with drilled sideskirts....

Whats up FT86!

Wondering how many of you have drilled sideskirts. I recently purchased a full HT auto lip kit and have installed the rear spats and front lip. I didn't mind drilling into the front bumper because I can always replace the bumper but I am a little nervous drilling directly into the underbody chassis.

Anyone have any issues ? I am scared to lose any body rigidity by creating holes under there. any rust issues?

lastly any advice when installing them?

thanks guys. I have owned my car 2 months now and trying to learn as much as possible.

i've

drilled my side skirts

on my

car. I did it at

home too. It was kinda awkward to

hold the sideskirt up for placement while drilling
but it

worked out fine still. I need to readjust my passenger

side though.

I put sideskirts on my car and surprisingly they're the most solid pieces I have on there, no wobbling or shaking or anything, they're pretty secure on there.

I highly doubt your car body would be any weaker with drilling holes in it.

Some piece of advice I'd give is secure the side skirt exactly how you would before you drill it in, once you drill it in there's no way to reverse it, so if it's not placed right, you'll regret it.

Also

you can probably go easy on the

I too run drilled side skirts. I went a overboard with protection with the holes I made to prevent rusting. Started with a base coat of POR-15 on each hole. Then after applied anti rust primer, and finished it up with touch up paint. When putting in the screws I covered the screw with a water proof sealant. Then used the same sealant along the rocker panel, and side skirt to prevent liquid from the outside seeping in. So far the skirts have been holding up great overall.

Mine are drilled, wouldn't want to risk them falling out while driving...

Have been waiting to get some sideskirts for my car... anybody here ever worried their passenger would step down onto the skirt getting out of the car? People seem to have problems getting in and out w/ the sides as it is already w/o anything there...

Make sure to have someone with you. It'll be a lot easier, I had a friend hold it in place while I drilled the holes. I also drilled extra holes in between pre-drilled holes on the side skirt because it seemed to sag a bit there. Other than that there was no problems with rust or anything else.

I've had a passenger or two do that but they don't just "stand" on it, the skirt made out of poly is flexible so their foot just slides off. I panic a bit mentally thinking it broke but being drilled into the rockers is really solid. They learn after the first time to take a bit bigger steps.

I definitely stepped down on the side skirts myself more than a handful of times accidentally and so far the screws have held up fine.

make sure you take your time while drilling them, i first made pilot holes so it would be easier to drill the screws into it, but it definitely helps if you have someone with you to hold it directly in place it took me a while for the first side skirt, the second took me less than 5 minutes to install, and you get used to it being there after a while so just be careful when exiting your vehicle that you dont step on it

On my Mustang, I've drilled into the hood, front fascia, rear fenders, and the rear deck lid to install parts. After you get the first one drilled being nervous goes away. Just make sure your marks are set right.
