Someone hit me at school.

I came into school early for testing this morning. After the test I got to leave school to go help out at an elementary school only to find out that someone scratched part of my bumper and dented my driver side fender.
I'm waiting for the office to get back to me now.
What do I do if they don't find who did this?

Are you not familiar with insurance?

It's not the school responsibility to watch your car.

Not really. I'm new to all of this. I don't have the money or job to pay the deductible or anything either.
I'll basically have to report it as a hit and run and hope for the best?

Assuming you're young and on your parents policy (?) Just go into your local walk in office with them (If you have one) and show them what happened. They will give you much more accurate info than anyone here will be able to, especially because they can pull up your policy right on the computer and make a call for the best course of action.

Edit: Hoping you have comprehensive with no deductible, then everything would be covered 100% nothing out of pocket. Your rates may or may not go up depending on company.

Good luck.

Oh, Johnny my man… More than likely you're out of luck with finding who did it, there isn't a magic fairy that pays the damage in these situations like that. Your parents will pay for it, unfortunately they'll have to take it out of your allowance for the next month or two.

On a lighter note, most of the marks can be removed with a polish by hand.

Tcoat 05-04-2015 02:00 PM

Probably $100 in PDR (Paintless dent removal), a bit of elbow grease and some polish and that will be almost as good as new. I wouldn't even consider going through my own insurance for that.

Yea I agree, I don't see any serious enough damage to require some insurance claim. A couple hundred dollars at most to get it fixed without having to take off the fenders and repaint. Because it's white colored it'll actually be easier to fix and blend in.

I personally have a $100 deductible for collision coverage with my insurance for cases like this for some jerks that hit my car, and I still only pay about $95/mo. If what happened to the OP happened to my I would make a claim just to save a bit of money.

Also to the OP, reporting a hit and run is not really going to solve anything unless you or someone got the license plate of who hit you, or a security camera feed, otherwise it's practically impossible and the police won't even try finding them without some form of evidence.

Jfheisenberg 05-04-2015 02:11 PM

What an asshole that did that... Best bet is insurance... hopefully your deductive is low.

I hate when that happens, that's why i always try to park very far away to try to prevent this from happening, you know there are always assholes/retarded drives that dont give a shit about others.

Good luck.

Actually, comprehensive coverage only counts toward anything other than another vehicle damaging yours. Vandalism or breaking into your car, to animal damage, hitting a tree, guard rail, etc. is covered under comprehensive and costs less because of the rarity of such instances (how often would someone hit a deer in their lifetime? Or be broken into?)

Collision coverage is for anything involving another vehicle, including a hit and run, and generally costs more because it's a common instance, bumping into another car in a parking lot for instance, and if you're at fault your insurance can only take the money from you, not the other car since it was your fault.

If you did find out who hit you, they would be liable for damage and could also be charged with a hit and run. In OP's case, since there is no other vehicle, he would be responsible for the deductible which is why I'd suggest not filing a claim at all and just take care of it personally.

Insurance prices are all about risk, the more expensive the coverage, the more likely it'll happen, the higher your rates, the more risky you're viewed to your insurance based on statistics. You can only be a safe driver, do your best, avoid claims and tickets and at-fault accidents for as many years as you can then when you turn around 25 (the age most insurers consider someone an adult), you can get better quotes.

Johnny. 05-04-2015 07:52 PM

Thanks for all the info everyone. Seems like the best course of action for me would be to have someone fix it with pointless dent repair and try to correct the paint myself.
Quote for the PDR was about $200 much better than the deductible.

Read the title and was expecting heartbreaking bully story. the trials and tribulations of a growing young teenager forced to confront his greatest fear. the soul crushing beat downs whittling our protagonist's sanity one mayweather punch at a time. the triumphant revival from the ashes and tears when the bully is finally confronted and publically defeated in an epic beyond the likes of david v goliath. the most heartwarming tearjerker of the century.

... what the hell am I doing at work? Anyways, sorry about the car paint, OP. Seems like you got a decent quote on the fix.

Went to the pdr place today, and they looked at damages and they said that the damages were too severe for repairs. ):

Shady195 05-06-2015 02:37 PM

Find another place because while pictures can be deceiving, that totally looks like it can be fixed by PDR, ive had much worse dents removed via PDR

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I'm gonna go with my friend later and look for more places nearby.

zman 05-07-2015 01:49 AM

I'm always scared when I park in my campus because of lack of parking spaces and the spaces themselves are very tight to a point where the doors won't even open that much. Even a skinny guy like me can barley get out .

Went to 4 pdr places all said they can't fix it all the way. They would be able to male it look better around 80% fixed, but it'll cost $400.

I see you updated the pics and agree it isn't as simple as the first ones looked. The dents cross the body crease line and PDR has a hard time with those.

themajesticone 05-07-2015 01:18 PM

Hit them back

TougeSlug 05-07-2015 03:22 PM

park on the end next time. give yourself that extra cushion of space. you deserve it.

Johnny. 05-08-2015 10:03 AM

Update: Someone came up to me yesterday and told me they saw who did it. I talked to the guy and he admitted that he did hit the car. Got all of his info and everything. Hopefully the damages will be fixed soon.

BlueSky 05-08-2015 11:46 AM

Man, you got lucky there
I would get a statement from him immediately so he cant back out later, when he sees how much it'll be

After this amount of time actually finding the person and having them admit that it was them is rarer than:

If you are a manufacturing/mechanical/automotive engineer with at least 5 years experience in robotics and assembly we can talk. Otherwise just wait and something may come up eventually.

Not much more to be said on topic on this thread until Johnny tells us it is fixed and paid for so derailment isn't really and issue.
Ya I was tied up last week so didn't jump on that one but let me know when the Street Stars happens.

@Tcoat Johnny better start breaking thumbs if its not fixed yet

So, if someone hits you, cant you hit them back? Thats just self defense right? If someone hits your car with a car, its only self defense if you hit their car with another car right :)

Johnny. 05-11-2015 02:38 PM

Their insurance said they are waiting for his statement, then I will get to pick the shop of my choice to get the vehicle repaired.

Johnny. 05-20-2015 01:35 PM

Update: He made the statement and I just got the check from his insurance for $1500. Looking for reputable shop now.

Glad to see something go right on here. Know it happens the majority of the time but the guys that have good news stories rarely seem to tell them so all people see are the bad ones.

Thank you very much for the update Sir.
