Best OFT tune for automatic?
Hey guys so I ordered an oft and should be arriving Friday afternoon. Which is the best recommended tune for an automatic with only an exhaust? I'll be honest I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff :/

It's not automatic vs. manual, it depends on the mods on your car. If you don't have an aftermarket header, then you should flash stage 1. If you do have an aftermarket header, you should flash stage 2. There are other variations for 91 octane or 93 octane, GrimmSpeed intake or no, Crawford BPBs or no, etc...
If all you have is a catback, you should flash stage 1. |
^ yup

You should get the OFT Automatic +15HP Tune.
Gives Auto's 15 more HP than the 6mt. |
Actually the best is E85...
If you have access to E85 where you are, the difference is very noticeable.
the E85 stage 2 would be the best OFT bin for an auto relatively stock 86... I've ran (with a cat back) the 91 stage 1 and the E85 stage 2 on mine. The stage 1 91 is noticeable difference over stock and the E85 is noticeable over the stage 1 91. Jaden |
hmm since you live in california you only have access to 91 octane so i recommend you run the 91 octane tunes. run stage 1 and if you get after market exhaust headers run stage 2

As a fellow automatic owner I have been there. The A/T has very tall gearing with a wide spread between gears. This makes it harder to accelerate, but more economical then the M/T's. If you hardly spend any time on the highway I recommend changing your final drive to 4.88. if you spend about 50/50 city/highway I recommend 4.55, and if you spend more time on the highway then in the city, keep the Final drive stock. I wanted better city acceleration without sacrificing too much mileage, so I went with a 4.88 FD. I couldn't justify the drop in mileage to a combined average on 24 though, so i switched it again to a 4.30. From a dead stop, it lunges forward in 1st gear, accelerates well through 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and still bogs a bit in 5th and 6th, but i'm happy with it. If you live near @Lunatic, maybe you can arrange a ride-along. He has an A/T with the 4.88 FD.
I run a specially modded OFT stage 2 91 Oct. UEL tune with changes to fan limits, MAF scale, AVCS intake and exhaust safe tables, Drive-by-wire req. torque B, and the cold start mods for timing and MAF correction after start. Have you considered getting an unequal length header? You purchase of an OFT qualifies you for a discount on an open flash header. I also have several used headers for sale at a substantial discount if you're interested. My car starts quiet, accelerates moderately with a light pedal, pulls hard with a heavy pedal, and still gets over 30 on the highway, and even in town if i resist temptation. I recommend getting on the list for the full throttle electric supercharger for a DD, if you're planning on taking your car to the track though, you'll probably want more power than an ESC can give. |
