Remove Engine - Any DIY's?

Hey all - I tried searching not only the forum, but google for a DIY engine pull guide (go figure it doesn't seem to exist) - so i'm looking for a few answers for anyone who may have done this before:

1. Where do you get a bolt / eye bolt to use as the second engine hoist point?

2. Can the engine be removed with the AC intact?

3. Can the engine be removed without draining the power steering?

Thanks! Have to pull my engine. It died at 11k (drinking oil in cyl 1)

-Unbolt the AC compressor from the motor and swing it to the side, system will be untouched.

-After the AC Compressor is out use one of the bolts as a second lifting point.

-There is no power steering fluid, electric

lol i must be crazy. What is the little res. just off center of the firewall? Looks like it has a line that sits right on the engine / tranny connection point.

Might be clutch master cylinder .

These cars have a second fluid reservoir for the clutch master and slave cylinder. Just like the AC, unbolt the clutch slave cylinder and put it off to the side. Just make sure no one pushes the clutch pedal and everything will be fine.

there we go. and upon closer inspection, it looks like its just ever so on the transmission side.

So just one of the ac compressor bolts will be strong enough to hold half the engine?

I see there is a empty bolt hole just left of that that looks pretty deep.

Also, i've got the AC Compressor free, but it seems like i have to severely twist the lines to rotate it out of the way. Any trick to that?

Totally first time engine puller here, please bear with me. I don't want to damage anything.

Thanks!

Here's a question. What are, and more importantly, how do i disconnect, the three lines just north of the oil filter / filler.

The service manual is on this site.. why don't you follow it and do it right so you don't break anything?? Especially if this is your first time pulling an engine! You're going to need it when you go back to torque things down anyway...

Thanks! I had only seen a 5000 page pdf someone posted that was impossible to follow.

I'll definitely download that.

Absolutely. I have it and it is the best. :)

Feel free to ask specific questions about "special tools" and such because there is always a way around special tools :D

Haha thanks.

I have just those fuel lines and the transmission to unbolt, then i'm ready to yank the engine. All in all, it's really not that bad of a process, even for someone who's never done it before. Now, finding the reason I have oil in cyl 1 will be another task in an of itself.
