Got kicked in the nuts by karma today

I'm not even mad. I deserved something like this to happen. I've progressively become a more arrogant, aggressive, a-hole driver since I got this car and today it bit me in the ass. Fighting over a lane with another aggressive driver trying to get the last laugh. Nobody's laughing now.. except the people behind us. I'm sure they enjoyed it. I'll take this as an important lesson learned.

I guess it's true what they say, we always hurt the ones we love.

what part of their car hit you? also, what kind of car did they have?

Thanks for being honest!
Can't tell from the pic but is that possibly an actual "It'll buff out Bro" incident?

Cadillac CT5, driver side rear wheel well.

Almost.. there's a bit of a dent right at the edge of the door. I can feel a slight incline running my finger over it.

I still think it was partially her fault, but I'm sure I'll be found at fault since she had already gotten ahead of me. I was getting in the right lane and she jumped over and floored it past me. I lingered a little bit assuming she wouldn't run into me, just to make a point. Brilliant move, obviously.

Will probably cost me a 500 dollar deductible, time, shame, and possibly a hit on the vehicle history report.

It's alright though, it's a small price to save me from something worse later on. I've been getting away with too much, so I will take this as a much needed wake up call and try to act like a normal human being on the road from now on.

Trust me. I learned the hard way. You want to take care of yourself and your car in the most respective way possible.

This is her car.. you can barely see the damage. It's right on that crack to the left of the tire. They were pissed. Her husband showed up and was acting like he was going to punch me in the face. I just didn't show any reaction whatsoever and I think he felt silly and dropped the tough guy act. Not like that was going to do any good anyway.

We all argued a little over what happened, but both of them and the cop that showed up agreed that the damage alone indicated I was at fault. He didn't write me a ticket, which was my primary concern, so as we left the scene I apologized on the way out just to be nice.. and because I did feel bad regardless of who's fault it was. I'll let the insurance figure it out and just go with what they decide.

I gave it a quick wash and tried to scrub off as much as I could. The part past the door is on the clear bra anyway, and I think the rest will buff out.

So, what do you guys think are my chances of that dent coming out? As it is, I can't see it, I can only feel a bump running my finger across the very edge of the door. Probably pushed the panel in a tiny bit except for the seam of the door where it's rigid.

Sure looks like that's tire mark, which should buff out unless it overheated the clearcoat and burnt it somehow...

It only takes one really good reminder to keep you sane. Not long after I got my BRZ I was having fun when I could trying to learn the car and, while prepping for a lane change, briefly thought about just zipping over. Did the usual rearview, side, shoulder, side, rear, side, shoulder (turn signal on at the start, and it's Chicago so I always check twice in case I catch someone zipping over from behind me at the last second) and at the last second decided "nah, save it for the track" and started merging slowly... only to get a panicked honking from the car evidently hiding to my right, that perfect color silver to blend with the overcast Chicago sky... I promptly spent 5 minutes adjusting my side view mirrors again. My wife was in the passenger seat. I would not have been happy with myself!

Could have been so much worse - take it for what it is. Thumbs up on the attitude.

Agree tire mark not a body contact (unless her car was rotating at the time).
If the dent isn't visible then it is not an issue but if it does show a PDR guy could probably fix it up in minutes for a reasonably small amount of money.

Glad everyone is ok. As for the dent, if it is not noticeable unless you run your fingers on it, just leave it. It may cost more to fix in the end.

But perhaps someone else has a more knowledgeable opinion than myself. :)

EDIT: Dang it, Tcoat beat me! xD

MikeM7 04-27-2015 11:03 PM

I said I couldn't see it "as is" because it's covered in scuff marks. I'm guessing it will be visible once it's clean. I hope you guys are right though, that'd be a relief.

Clay bar it!

It looks like a piece of artwork.

That should come out with a bit of cutting and polishing compound. Maybe swing by a detailer and see what they think.
