OIL LEAK STILL PRESENT AFTER INSTALLING NAMELESS PERFORMANCE PLATE

Hey guys,

I've been battling this pesky leaky cam plate issue for over a year now. I've had it into the dealer 3 times only to have it leak on the way home from the dealer the last time! At that point I decided to buy the Nameless Performance Cylinder Head Cover/Oil Leak Delete Kit.

I removed the stock plate and cleaned the mating surfaces with a red brillo pad, which works great for removing RTV gasket material while being less chemically than a solvent and less abrasive than a putty knife. I had the car on my lift so I had a great view from underneath the car to make sure all the surfaces were clean. It still leaked. Nameless even sent out a second plate to see if the first one was the issue but it still leaks.

My question is this:
Has anyone had a similar experience trying to eliminate this leak and if you were able to stop it, how did you do it?

I've read up on this topic quite a bit over the last year and have read through most of the threads on this forum pertaining to it but I haven't seen anyone have the problem AFTER installing an aftermarket plate such as Nameless or Raceseng.

PLEASE HELP

- Pete

Did you use gasket sealant when you put the plate back on? I left mine to dry for 24 hours before driving the car and it hasn't leaked since.

Get Raceseng's plate. No problems with mine. Tried the Nameless one was a waste of money, looked cool though...

Need aftermarket cam plate. The factory one is not good enough.

I haven't used rtv gasket yet but that's the next step. I plan to do that tomorrow. I was just surprised to see it leaking immediately after. I didn't think I'd need to supplement with rtv as they advertise it as guaranteed to not leak.

You're not using RTV and are surprised it's leaking. :eyebulge:

Thanks for the link. Interesting to see others have the same problem. Did you have to use rtv with the Raceseng plate? Any leaks with it? I personally don't care what the piece looks like since its at the back of the motor. Functionality is most important to me.

Well I guess I'll see how rallysportdirect.com customer service handles my warranty request.

I have the Raceseng plate and the instructions say to use sealant.

You have to use some sort of formed in place gasket.

Well Nameless did say it does not require RTV

Oh that's strange, didn't realize that. The Raceseng one uses RTV and it fixed my leak. Obviously they're wrong or people are installing it wrong.

Yeah, I don't know if it would work even doing it the Raceseng method of RTV application. When I installed it I was thinking to myself "I really don't feel like this o-ring is being crushed at all." A minute or two of running and oil was pissing out of there. You know how with Raceseng the o ring contacts the face of cam hole? On the nameless it kinda sits inside the hole more so than around it on the face (which is more what I expected). You'd probably almost have to do it factory style with RTV all around it to make it work, unless I got a defective part. But it would seem I am not alone.

Anyways Raceseng FTW, zero issues for several months now.

Thanks for all the input folks. I am going to return the Nameless plate and I ordered the Raceseng plate yesterday. This should fix the leak. I'll post up when I finish.

UPDATE - I installed the Raceseng plate last week and so far have had zero drips. And Rallysportdirect.com is going to take care of me on the Nameless plate that didn't work. I continue to be impressed with their stellar customer service!
