3M Spoilers

Hi,

I was thinking to get an aftermarket spoiler (morel OEM style or Aerojacket style, very subtle instead of like Rocket Bunny wings), at the same time I saw some on Ebay for a lower price and they are attached by 3M tape. So my question is, have anyone experience any situation when the spoilers are only taped onto the trunk? Would it detached after while? Or should I go with the one with the bolts?

Manufacturer from Toyota is $800 for 2015 FRS spoiler and I want to pay way lower than that.

Thanks all!

A lot of the flush fit spoilers (really more duck tails than what I call a spoiler) such as the 5axis and others are all 3M based. If applied per the directions, they are pretty much on there for good unless you apply a lot of effort to get them off. If it is an airfoil type, I wouldn't get it unless it involved bolts.

I've had my CF Duck bill style spoiler from Modbargains for over a year with no issues from the 3m tape.

Rain/sun/high speeds etc never an issue. 3M tape is serious stuff haha.

3M tape works but you also gotta think of the highly unlikely but still possible situation of someone ripping off your spoiler cause it's only on by tape. I've heard stories of such. If someone knows what they're doing and recognizes the part they can do it.

As far as wind goes going at speed, if you use enough tape I don't see why it should fall off, if it's functional in design I'd personally feel safer with more than just tape.

ive had my 5axis on for about half a year. its pretty secure. been hitting 100mph with it on and its still there. however last time i pressure washed it i heard squishing noise coming from one of the ends when i push on that spot. still pretty secure tho

most of the brackets that hold the louvers on are also held in by tape. still secure even at high speeds

3M tape is like cement! I pretty sure my spoiler wont come off with unless a crazy amount of force applied to it.

Ive heard claims that 3m spoilers were stolen/removed, but I doubt it (if it was attached properly)...I'm fairly certain my spoiler would break first if trying to rip it off, that sucker is ON THERE. Sure if you sit there with some heavy duty string or something you could probably work it off, but its just as much risk as having anything stolen (wheels, exhaust, front lip etc) since you'd need some time to work it off.

probably easier to steal my whole car than it is to steal just my rear lip spoiler. lol

Thanks all for the comments. Would the ones on Ebay carbon fiber duck tails have any difference with the ones sold by venders (with their own sites)? They both are 3M and carbon fiber.

when i got my genuine 5axis it had the 3m pre applied so i t made installation a breeze. if you buy knock offs on ebay, youll probably need to get it painted first and then apply the 3m yourself. also, look into 3m adhesive promoter to really get it solid
edit: nvm about the painting comment since you are getting carbon fiber lol. but still be careful of knock offs and always do a test fit immediatly to make sure you wont have huge gaps before you apply the 3m

ebay has knockoffs prepainted for $129. From what everyone is saying the match is great.

I was looking at this particular one. (just the duck tail, not the whole trunk lid). So wasn't sure if it's good. But could always go to ModBargain to check out their duck tail too.

I used 3M tape no problem at all my duck tail from modbargains
