Yep! Most of the dynos show very modest increases and drop ins and whole systems are about the same. They actually did a pretty good job engineering the stock intake so it is pretty hard to get much more out of an aftermarket one.

I get jittery about my K&N drop in after looking at hard data. Does this leaned out AFR cause any damage/problems over the long haul?

what about the perrin inlet tube?

Most of the gains I saw were relatively equivalent between a cold air intake and a drop in + inlet tube. I went the latter route and got both for about $120. End result was a better sound, improved throttle response and maybe a smidge more oomph.

I wouldn't worry about it - the MAF is after the filter and will tell the ECU to adjust the mix accordingly. The cars that were dynoed right after dropping it in probably haven't had time to adjust yet. I wouldn't be concerned about this at all.

.

I got the same from just a TRD drop in with the stock inlet tube. That stock tube is as ugly as sin though!

No doubt - the main reason I got the Perrin tube was to delete the stock tube and the sound generator. Cleaned up the engine bay quite a bit on that alone.

GrimmSpeed air intake. They've done an incredible amount of testing and refining to make their product work well without affecting the AFR, which a lot of the others will do.

I agree. It provides a nice little increase in throttle response and a little kick but the best part is the sound is so much cleaner. And the engine bay looks much nicer too.

+1 for GrimmSpeed, getting it tuned (hopefully) sometime next month.

I'll be that guy: stock airbox plus a drop-in filter.

+1. I have the OFH/OFT so I had to keep the airbox. But I did get the SuperTek intake tube and painted it to match the body color.

In the past I had the Injen intake system and hated it, it didn't look good and I honestly think the filter just doesn't do enough, and I'm inherently skeptical of all cone filters over stock. I just haven't seen real proof they filter out everything the stock filter does.

In my opnion with a new intake tube and getting rid of the side tank when you look to the left of the intake box, the stock intake box looks really good, and clean and simple.

I plan on having a drop in filter before my next change for a bit more gain.

Perrin Cold Air intake vs Mishimoto Cold Air Intake?

Thanks for considering our intake! As others have mentioned, there are numerous options available, all producing some pretty nice gains as well as improved intake sound.

We currently have one intake on the market, a cold-air system, and we are working on a second option which features an engine-bay mounted airbox.

We conducted a ton of testing on our first design, which is highlighted at the link below. We also discuss the R&D that went into creating this product, pretty neat stuff.

http://engineering.mishimoto.com/?cat=112

We made around 10whp/8wtq with this particular setup, some solid gains for an intake system on an NA vehicle.

Our second intake system is still in the works, but we are highlighting both development and testing in a similar fashion. Check it out!

Let me know if I can answer any questions about the intakes we have. Good luck with the modification of your BRZ!
