Hail storm

Got caught in a hail storm today. 1/2 inch to 1 inch diameter. I have never seen this amount of hail or rain before. Even saw a large tree limb in the road that came down just moments before. Checked out my BRZ and quite a few subtle dimples on the hood and a few on the roof. I only see a couple on the trunk. Fortunately one really has to be looking for the damage with a strong back light. But now I know it is there.

I plan to check my policy for comprehensive coverages. Not sure my course of action. I really tried to keep the car pristine but in the past couple months I scraped a wheel rim and the under surface of the front air dam. Not saying she is ready for the crusher but feel demoralized by this freak encounter with natures darker side.

Amazing the power of nature. Ahh, don't worry about it, insurance will fix er up. That is all covered under the Acts of God portion of the policy. I think even Liability has that coverage. You'll just have the deductible if anything. Might even be able to talk the paint shop into shooting the air dam and fixing that too, they often need to paint panels around the damage to blend in the new paint anyways.

pdr doesn't always work on Subaru paint, the paint is such shit it cracks a lot when you attempt to pdr damage.

I was caught in hail yesterday too. I saw a couple dents in the trunk, and four or so in the hood. I'm super anal about this stuff, so back to the PDR guy it goes.

I had bad hail damage on my 2005 RSX-S in 2009. Like you, while I loved the car I found the hail damage rather demoralizing. I'd already been thinking about getting an SUV for more space and all-weather capability. The hail damage actually ended up being a godsend. As basically every body panel had to be replaced and repainted, insurance cut me a check for $8700 ($9700 estimate -$1000 deductible). The car was probably worth $16k pre-hail, but I sold it as-is with hail damage for $12,500. Netted $21,200 from that transaction, >$5k more than the car was worth in undamaged condition. Allowed me to buy a brand-new 2010 Nissan Xterra Off-Road in cash.

Hopefully you can either make money off of this as I did, or keep the money and enjoy the windfall in exchange for a little less eye appeal on your BRZ.
