Side view mirror functions??
 

Hello everyone, question about the side view mirrors on the twins for the USA market...
I used the search function and could only turn up results about people asking about power side folding mirrors...


It is to my understanding that the side view mirrors can be folded but only manually?
Does it matter if the key is on acc or on? Page 68 of the manual is a little confusing when it mentions that the car needs to be in the acc or on position for mirror adjustments, or maybe this is for the power mirror adjustments for either mirror and not for folding?

Also, are these mirrors supposed to fold in one way and not the other? Reason for this question is because recently I was watching a guy work at a detailing place and he folded the mirrors outwards and not inwards, he showed me that the mirrors can fold either way and that it is a common feature for jdm cars.
Is it normal for the mirrors on our cars to be manually folded in both ways? In and out? Or is it meant to fold in only?

P.s - I have the limited trim so I've got the heated side mirrors, is it correct that to turn this function on you simply turn on the rear defroster? The heated side view mirror function is paired to the rear defroster?
Is there a way I can check the function on this? Do the side view mirrors get warm or hot when the heat function is turned on?
If so then the side view mirrors are heated every time the rear defroster is turned on?

Yeah the search function isn't all that great. I usually use google and click links for this forum and it works much better.


They only fold manually and the car doesn't need to be on acc or turned on, that's only for the power mirror function itself. I've always folded them inward so I cant speak for if they fold the other way. I'd be afraid to try honestly.


The heated side mirrors are connected to the rear defrost. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm 99% sure. I don't think you'll feel any heat on them though.

Thanks, yeah the guy detailing the car just sort of folded them outwards lol, he was the owner and there were much much nicer cars there than mine so I trust that he knew what he was doing considering some of the supercars and luxury cars he had on the lot he works on.

I checked the mirror housing and nothing is loose or out of the ordinary so I'm wondering if they are meant to fold either way in/out?

They are ment to fold either way, its a feature added to vehicles years ago to keep them from being broke off if hit. The heated side mirror function is activated with the rear defroster. Usdm didn't get auto folding mirrors.

You can restrict a Google search to just this site using Google's "site:" tag, like so:

Doing that returns only results from this site. The "site:" tag can be used with any site to search just that domain. Message board searches suck in general, so I always use Google when I need to search one.

The car has to be powered on for you to be able to adjust the mirrors using the controls in the driver's door, because those use electric switches and little motors. Since folding the mirrors is not one of those adjustments, you don't have to have the car on to fold them.

Thats good to know, I knew that the brz had heated mirror but never found the button to activate this function.
