Oil Cooler install in the GTA..
 

If you were going to purchase aftermarket oil cooler for BRZ in the GTA, which would you buy who would you get to install it?


East end preferred but not bothered.. shop must be open weekends though. As that's the only time I don't need the car at the moment.

I got mine from BRZWORLD, Barrington would know the best local install.

BRZWORLD did my install of the new MISHI oil cooler. A real nice piece of kit .
And - what a difference ! :D

In combo with the OFT temp monitor, watching the numbers will be very informative on the track.

I have not yet been able to get the oil over 200 degrees (waiting till summer arrives again (It disappeared last week).

The smaller coolers (Perrin) have shown temps in excess of what is safe during hard tracking, I doubt the bigger Mishi will do that on a non aspirated car, I will log, and report.

Did you get the thermostatic or regular? If you drive in the winter the regular might prevent you from getting the oil to temp within a reasonable time. I have heard you can do something to block it off if need be.

I am having a hard time getting my head around paying so much for an oil cooler. I can get an OEM style one for around $300.00 USD but apparently it is mostly effective at warming up oil to operating temp and only cools maybe 3 degrees thereabouts. I was uncomfortable lapping at 122C on the weekend with 5W30.

Thermostatic, but it refers to the coating, its not a thermostat. The quality of the machining, the braided hoses, misc. parts etc. and search for same bits and pieces of same hi quality on ones own, and convenience, justifies the price imho.


I hide in salt weather, but if I wintered my track car I would definitely put an oil thermostat in (looks better than a piece of cardboard).

That's what I thought also, but Mishi in U.S told BRZWORLD I got the one w/o the thermostat, but just the thermostatic coating of the sandwich plate.

I also did not go for the fan etc.

I saw the install of my other cooler, but not the Mishi, and after, I was to busy checking for leaks to look closely at the plate.

Maybe ! Goin out to look !

There are 2 kits for the FRS, mine is the one without the thermostat. The above link is generic Mishi plate not the FRS kits below .

A phone inquiry to Mishi asking about the thermostat resulted in them saying "thermostatic refers to the coating". (Every corporation has idiots, was that one ? I don't know).

Bottom of page - went in slicker than snake shit slidin off'n a glass doorknob, much easier than the Mishi oil cooler.


The Mishi leaks after install and needs re-tightening when stacking tolerances, heat expansion cycles, etc, etc, happens, like lug nuts.


But Mish warns to check for seepage periodically iff'n you WOT ALOT, just in case.
