Front tag legal?

Hey I've had my frs for while with no front tag as I was under impression in Maryland I didn't need one since I had no mounting points due to a new law passed October 2013. And just now got harassed by police for not having one anyone know the clarity of this law?

Google is your friend.

Short answer: the law never made it out of the State House.

keep it in your backseat... if you get stopped, say it broke off

used to do that in a previous car, 90% of the time it worked

just say it got stolen

Or just abide by the law and mount it...

Seriously though, that's your best bet. Nobody is a fan of front plates but nobody is a fan of police attention and/or tickets either.

Or you could move to a State that does not require them like PA.

You need a front plate. Usually the dealer just drills holes in your bumper to make mounting points after you purchase the car.

Just slide it in between your dash and front window on your passenger side and you will never be pulled over for it again. I have done this in my miata and now the FRS for the last 3 years and have NEVER been harassed by an officer. I feel like when you make an effort to display the plate, even when it is not in good visibility that the officers respect that and will usually leave you alone. I say this because my coworker removed his plate from his EVO and he gets none stop harassment.. He refuses to listen to me but it is going to be really funny when he roles in one day with a ticket. Police officers are humans too and they usually understand what were going through. That is why I feel compromise is the best solution to this issue :D

Front plates are an important revenue item for your state because they give the police a place to aim the LIDAR.

The Toyota dealers around here apparently drill the holes the minute it comes off the truck. We purchased the FRS with 5 miles on the odo, and the dealership already had the front plate bracket mounted :(

When I bought the Camaro, I even recall signing paperwork that said the dealer had put the front plate bracket on. Luckily my dealer was cool, and when I asked them not to put it on, they obliged. They still made me sign the paperwork but I don't have holes in my Camaro's front fascia.

MD is a front plate state. Gotta have it. For me, it's easier to just keep it on using the Grimmspeed license plate relocation kit (dat air flow). One less thing to be hassled about. I don't need to give the police anything to pull me over for (especially since my tints are below the legal limit). Bah

License plate relocator kit....problem solved

As mentioned before, tow hook plate mount. Best compromise. Why give the 5-0 a reason to hassle you?

TheVoiceOfReason 04-16-2015 01:59 PM

I personally hate the look of off center plate relocations. Will never be an option for me, and I'm sure some others feel the same.
