They've Got Me Again

Hey 86 fellas. I need help on this minor, $100 traffic violation. I was in a rush to a meeting and accidentally parked next to a fire hydrant. Ticket says all vehicle must be at least 16ft away from the fire hydrant.

Not hoping to get away but is there anything I can do to lessen the punishment? Am I oblivious to the unintended but clear parking violation? Is any attempt even worth it? My last confrontation with the laws was just a couple months ago, a warning for "unintended" speeding.:thanks:

Here's a Google street shot of where I parked:

how much does the ticket cost???

Parking tickets are usually fight it or pay it. You said you parked beside a fire hydrant so i dont think you have many options.

What is it? $50?

Wouldn't have a hope of arguing that one here. In Ontario it isn't a moving violation though so just a bit of cash lost with no other ramifications. Not sure about where you are.

It's just $100. It's pocket change for most but it's $100 for me. lol

That's a lot of change in anyone's pocket. About 5lbs in quarters if I remember my math correctly...

In the end though, if you are guilty probably not worth your time to try and fight it. You'd only get out of it if you could prove you weren't parked within the distance required.

It's always possible if you show up your accuser won't be there and you would get off, or the judge would let you off without a fine just for showing up (sort of a time served thing) depending on the jurisdiction.

Since it's not a moving violation I'd scrap up 5 lbs of quarters and just pay it.

Pay it and just be careful next time. The time and effort you'd spend contesting it will go well beyond $100.

send it all in pennies.

That still works in some areas? They did away with that loop hole years ago here. All they need is a written statement from the "accuser" and in the case of a parking violation the ticket itself serves as the statement.

Lol.. Don't want to get another violation for "Time constraint payment method"

BRZPDX 04-15-2015 11:35 AM

fine. Just do a raging penis picture on the check. Or give it a light squirt with your hand lotion, gives it a nice slimy texture.

Since you have right to "face your accuser" in the US it happens still with some regular frequency particularly since you can call the officer as a witness, or so I'm told (I haven't been in traffic court since I traded in my last Brontosaurus). The judge can just delay it as well.

Then again, I could be totally off.

WhiteFRS69 04-15-2015 11:48 AM

ehhh for $100 i say just pay it

im kinda in the same boat.. got a failure to keep right ticket after going around a pothole

cop didnt care, told me to hit the pot hole next time
$185 with two points, if i go to fight it, in NJ, they turn it into an unsafe driving ticket, no points but its $500
