I need some advice on some lowering springs.
I'm thinking about lowering my car about 1.0-1.2 inches in the front and the back. This is. The first car I've owned that I'm wanting to do this, so I'm not to sure on what brands are the most trusted. I found some on modbargains, but like I said, I'm not 100% sure on the best kind for my car. Can anyone give some advice on what brands or websites to go to?

RCE Yellow springs work great with stock struts. They lower .8" though. I believe the eibach pros are another good option and they lower 1".

TRD springs are generally pretty good too, and are original equipment on some of the special edition FRS models, I think. They will lower the car about 1" all around.

I have H&R sport springs on my BRZ, 1" front and 1.2" rear drop. I like the ride and the look but to be honest I think I'll get the H&R Super Sport springs which lower another .2" front and rear, for the look after experiencing the sport springs.
Eibach is also a good brand. H&R or Eibach are the probably the best lowering springs just because they seem to be the most common. We carry the H&R super sport springs on our website and a couple other brands too. If you want a quote on some springs we can give you a discount being on the forum. You can send us a PM if you'd like. -RyanG |
Toss Hotchkis in there too, they have been doing suspension for quite awhile, and have a good reputation. Their lead designer autocrosses an FR-S too, so he had a vested interest when he did the FR-S/BRZ springs and ARB's.

This is the second set of Eibach Pro-kits I've bought for a vehicle and I absolutely love them. first was on my MKII MR2 and now my BRZ. I never rub on anything and the ride feels relatively stock, but the progressive springs definitely stiffen up in the corners.
Definitely agree with Vivid Racing. I've only ever heard good things about H&R and Eibach, which led me to buy the Eibachs for the MR2 and BRZ, and H&R Race springs on my '97 A4. I have absolutely no complaints about either option. I don't know about Tein s-techs on the BRZ/FRS, but I've heard they're too stiff from both Honda and MR2 guys. Here's what the Pro-kits look like on stock wheels, as well as a set of 17" RPF1's I just picked up: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psshx4mwux.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psxmw5akjs.jpg |

So what's the spec on your wheels and tires? Has it ruined the handling or how has the handling changed compared to the stock springs? |
I really like RCE. I can't speak for the others, but I have found RCE to be more focused on more than just the aesthetics of how a car look, they seem to focus more on the performance of the car after the spring is installed. They also are built with keeping the longevity of your struts in mind.
RCE Yellows with a lighter 18" wheel would probably look really good on these cars. |

I liked em a ton. Eibach is good and if you want not as aggressive a drop the pro kit is also available and I do believe that only does a 1 in drop. The RCE yellows are also a lowering spring I've heard good things about. Good luck on your decision man! |

As far as the springs, I was worried I would upset how the car handled but I really didn't notice much of a difference at all from stock. As far as performance goes, there's definitely an improvement. The initial stiffness feels stock, but when you put it into a turn the progressive spring rates keep it from rolling as much. I lucked out and got a photo of me and a stock car in the same corner so you can kinda see the difference: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...pseb9aad9a.jpg After getting sticky tires, I'm right up there with all the other 86's in my autoX region that have coilovers and much more mods. The biggest difference I noticed, however, was when I put in Koni Yellow struts. I have them about 1/3 of the way from soft and they're only a tad bit stiffer than stock. On full soft they actually feel a little softer than stock. You really don't have to put on new struts with only a 1" drop, but I was forced to after I accidentally let the shaft of the strut spin when installing the top nut, resulting in all the fluid leaking out. Word to the wise: don't let that happen haha. Get some cheap offset wrenches to do it correctly. Which is what I did the second time around. |
