Looking to join the FRS community soon
Well I drove one and really thats the end of the story haha. But to back up my car history is a bit different than most here. Started with 02 celica gts, then moved onto an e36 m3 for 4 years then an E46. I traded in the M3 about 2 years ago on a GTR. It was my first 'fast' car i guess and also the first non manual.

Pilot Super Sport 285/35/20F 335/30/20R, swift springs. ~~550awhp Anyway I was toying around with idea for getting rid of it for something it bit more raw. don't get me wrong the GTR is great, but I think because it is able to be a DD and a sports car at the same time it has to make compromises. I went to check out a viper and was very close to trading in. But i just couldn't drive it as much as the GTR, that and although it has TCS... it barely exists from what im told. Its still a very sketchy car to drive fast. So then I thought about replacing my current DD. A depressing 06 corolla with hail damage all over. A hand me down from the parents. It looks like crap but everything works and it gets from A to B. I went and test drove an FRS a few days ago and was blown away. Shifter/clutch was on point. Best of all was the seating position. I love how loooww it sits just like the viper. The handling was awesome and you can really balance it on the limit.. i think thats what i was missing the most. Even with how good the GTR is.. trying to approach the limits of it on the backroads is still pretty scary. The power 'enough' i guess, its kind of fun to be able to redline gears and keep your foot floored for more than a second and not have to face jail time. I think the GTR and FRS complement eachother very well because they are the exact opposite approach to building a sports car. Look forward to joining you guys in the next few months  |
well iv never drove in high end cars myself but the ft86 community welcomes you! (Whether you own a twin or not)
(be aware that the threads are occasionally flooded with trolls and comments that contain no revelence to the topic.) |
Welcome to the world of a nice, balanced machine .....:)

Don't do it humdizzle. Just step away, and no one gets hurt.
No HP, mean torque dip, no light-up vanity mirrors, the seat belt will rub against your neck if not fed through the harness, it's a Scion (not a Toyota), no sunglasses holder, there is a probability of a scratch or dent, cheap carpet, the horn is too quiet, the horn is too loud.... I could go on and on, but based on 128! pages of Things you HATE the most... (the fourth most popular thread on the forum), I'm convinced that I'm the only person around here who loves his FR-S/BRZ. For what its worth, I know next to nothing about cars. So eventually, you, like everyone else who buys one of these POSs, will want to give up on automobiles altogether and fantasize about living on a sailboat full time. Welcome aboard. |
Very cool. I keep thinking about picking up a R35 in the next several years. How is the maintenence on it? The only thing that keeps me away from the car is the fear of having to replace something big like a transmission.

i've had mine for 2 years and only put 10000 miles on it. Only thing that has gone wrong was the nav unit had to be replaced free under recall as it caused my stereo to cut out. As long as the car hasn't been abused the tranny would be fine. You can check in the computer to see max temps on all the fluids and how many times the car has been launch. I'd highly recommend picking up a cobb accessport to update to the 2014/2015 transmission software as it will shift ALOT smoother.
The car will eat through tires / gas / brakes faster than others because at the end of the day its still a 3800 pound fat ass. tires: 1200 for set of supersports. Gas i average 14mpg city. Every 18k there is a $2000 tranny/diff fluid change. You are paying half the price for performance equivalent to the gallardo/458/997 turbo though. and after a couple thousand in bolt ons you will easily walk away from them. |

Interesting to hear a comparison between the FR-S and the GTR. Those are some beautiful shots of your GTR. I have had my FR-S for over a year and currently have it up for sale. Its a cool daily driver and could be considered raw given the fact it is very much a bare bones sports car. However, I would recommend thinking about what your daily commute is like. Mine is 16 miles of 80+ mph speed. To most that sounds awesome but it gets old and I wish I had something with a little more room and was a bit more quiet. The FR-S as a second car is probably the best scenario. I have a '71 Datsun 240z as well. If you want "raw" go find a nice one to test drive, it might surprise you. Many comparisons were written about the 240z and FR-S and rightfully so as the FR-S very much shares the same spirit and concept as the 240z did. Let us know what you end up doing.

In fairness people do ride with me and flat out ask how I do it all the time. There is nothing quite as fun as the look of horror on their face when we drive over railroad tracks (or in some extreme cases a manhole cover). |
yeah its going to be hard to avoid the mod bug with this car. I hate when cars dont have a flush fitment, but I dont want to kill the ride quality either. The stock car rides pretty good in my opinion.
I'll avoid the go fast parts for now... I have the gtr for that when i need it. and like i said before, its fun to be able to wring this things neck out and not have to worry about a huge ticket. |
