TireDiscounter Qoute for Lowering Spring Install
 

Planned to have my tires installed on my rims and get my TRD springs installed at the same time. Tire Discounters quoted me $725 in labor just for the springs! WTF? anyone have any suggestions that don't charge $1000? Hell even the dealership likely beats that price.

they gotta make money somehow, but seriously that is outrageous! If you lived closer, Me and my buddie would install the springs for less than half of what he charges.

You should just do it yourself. It really isn't very difficult at all. There's a DIY you can use as a guide. I did mine in about three hours all by myself with no real special tools. And ignore the part about the spring compressor. You can use the weight of the car to compress the springs. But you do need the special socket to hold the shock in position when you release the springs. Just read through the entire DIY before you start because it has been modified through experience. It's a lot easier than it sounds like in the beginning.

It may come as a surprise to people but not everybody wants to DIY for everything no matter how easy it may be.

raven - That is way to much (even at Canadian prices which tend to be much more) . Shop around I am sure you will do better.

Prepare to possibly buy new Sway Bar endlinks for the fronts as well. Waiting for new ones to come in for me, going to have to hack mine off with a saw because the nut is seized and the Allen key stripped.

As far as a shop, standard rate for shop saround here is between 75-100 an hour and just about any shop will quote you an hour per wheel.. So thats pretty fucking insane for the springs.

didnt you get quoted like 500-600 from toyota dealership for the purchase and install of the TRD springs???

I always rent spring compressors when doing this sort of thing. It's much safer. Autozone gives you the deposit back as long as you don't break anything.

I just checked the bill of my toyota workshop from last week and can confirm that, they charged around three hours in total for it. It was part of a larger job, so it might differ a bit if done by itself.

I had a guy install mine for 100 bucks. He lives in the north carolina area though. Its not hard at all only takes about an hour.

Had someone do my pinks for like $40 and a 12 pack. Took him and his friend 30 mins.

I've installed lowering springs for 5 guys in the last year for free.
Most true "car enthusiast" will help you out so that you might help the next guy out in need.

Someone who I would consider one of my two best friends was made while asking for advice on an old forum for my 300ZX. We met up, he actually helped me do my 5 speed swap on the car and we've been friends ever since. He was only up here for college but lived in texas and now has lived in japan for the past 5 years. However whenever he comes back home he flys in to NY and stays with me for a few days to hangout and catch up.

Any community can be like that, and its amazing.

You know the funny part for me is that although I have zero interest in doing my own work anymore if given the opportunity to go help somebody else I would do it in a heartbeat.
