Strange request

I was driving to get some food and had my friend following me. Out of no where a Dodge charge cuts my friend off and starts high beeming me....so I thought here we go again another douche bag wants to race. So I ignore the guy and keep driving to my destination. All while getting those flashing lights. So I finally desided to pull over and see what's up.An older guy pulls up and with his wife in the passenger side pull her window down and shouts can you please do me a favor? Funny and weird I thought so I waited for him to pull over in front of me. He gets out,his wife gets out,His mother gets out (I assume she was elderly). They all come to my side and start telling that their daughter has the SAME car as mine and if there was anyway I can give them my VIN# so they can order a part for her car. I was hungry and annoyed so I politely told them NO. They looked shocked that I said that. So they kept reexplaining the daughter needed a part so I politely said no again and politely peeled away...
Have any of you ever gotten this before??

I feel like that situation calls for a weird ass question like that.

Made me chuckle.

I'm sure they can go to any toyo/subie dealer for vin#

finch1750 04-08-2015 03:58 AM

You do need an RS Vin for RS parts....

But sounds sketchy AF

eddiev116 04-08-2015 09:17 AM

@NWFRS no they were not Russians they were spanish speaking people. @finch1750 your right but they're not getting my RS VIN# they can go elsewhere with that request. :burnrubber:

Did sound like they were in a hurry, yes!

He didn't give them the number though so now they are Finish.

LOL, I wouldn't be surprised if they turned to be Swedish after a few days.

Agree it seems shady, but is there any harm in giving out your VIN #? Anyone can just read it off your car if they really wanted to.

I don't understand this story. Why would they need someone else's VIN to order a part for their own car which presumably has its own VIN?

Seems more likely they wanted a VIN off a similar vehicle to try and legitimize a stolen vehicle or something.

If they had a base FRS but wanted a Release Series part they would need a RS VIN.
It actually makes sense to get one but that is not the best way to go about it.
Chasing a guy around flashing your lights and the approaching his car when it stops sounds like a recipe for a shooting in my book.

Your right @Tcoat... That grandma sure looked serious enough to pull the trigger. Lol. But in all seriousness I never did look at it that way. I will be more cautious about something like this if it does happen again. Thanks.

I was thinking more the other way around!
Damn if you were a Texan you probably would have had your gun ready before you even stopped moving.
For that matter I would be ready for whatever and I am in Canada.
