any problems with running e85?
So, I decided on going e85, uel header, with oft e85 tune. Anyone here run e85 long term, encountering issues? A friend of mine worried me a bit when he warned me, because our motor was not design to run e85.

Be prepared for a surprise when you do. Run it and don't worry about it. Change the oil a bit more often and that's it. There are a few '13 FR-S/BRZ's here that have been running E85 since new with no problems. The only downside is that mileage is terrible. 18mpg is the best I've ever seen with ethanol.

Only been on e85 a month and a 1/2. Short term and perhaps coincidence, my #1 coil pack started acting up. Have a replacement on order. From what I gather, the coils are not happy with heat from a non shielded header. And perhaps with the new fun from the power gain on e85, I have been driving even more aggressive lately.
My millage has been between 18 and 22 depending on how aggressive I drive it. Other than that. Fun fun fun. |
Cold start issues potentially, I had them on e85 below 55*F, increased cracking fuel as recommended in tuning section.

I've been on e85 for at least 12,000 miles. The only issue is cold start sometimes requires a few cranks. This problem is resolved by adding 1.5-2 gals of regular pump gas to every 9 gallons of e85. Other than that, it's been great. I have a buddy that's run e85 for over 25,000 miles with no issues either. Top user somewhere on this board has reported over 30,000 miles with no issues. So far so good.

OK, I'm glad to here this. I'm fortunate to have e85 close to me. Planning on running e85 daily.

Would love to hear from some more long term e85 users if any. Getting openflash header, and oft next week, and excited. Reassurance is a good thing.

Y'all are getting crazy low MPGs with e85. When I'm doing mostly highway driving, I get around 23-24mpg. Of course if I'm playing around, that quickly drops...
On a side note, have any of you noticed that E85 pumps tend to cut off fueling way too early? Every time I fill up, I have to fill, cutoff, fill, cutoff, fill, cutoff, etc. I can get almost a full extra gallon in the tank after it cuts off the first time. |

anyways they fixed it and now the pump at my stations perfect on cutoff. ask the attendant to request the pump be serviced if its malfunctioning, took about 2 weeks for my station to fix the pump I use. |
