Cost for maintenance is NUTS!!

Normally I do the maintenance myself, but this time I wanted to do a full inspection at the dealership just to have some peace of mind. I've had 1 oil change done at a garage so far, and it was $90 which is only about $10 more than if I was to do it myself. So it's pretty reasonable.

So I'm looking at maintenance schedule B, which is supposed to be at 20k, 40k, etc. The inspection is a visual check all around, tire rotation, oil change, fluids top up, brake adjustment. All of that seems pretty standard, except the brake adjustment. How much adjusting needs to done on disc brakes?? Anyways its $350! and it takes 4 hours!! What, are they staring at the car for 2 hours? I don't even want to think what they will charge for major inspections at 60k, 100k. Is this normal? I haven't been to a dealership for maintenance in about 10 years. It's highway robbery!

uuh, is this your first car?... this is how stealerships make their money. Try buying 4 vehicles from the same dealer and have them treat you like shit... wait thats me...

If the cost of maintenance bothers you, don't ever buy anything European! In my experience, it's always double what a Japanese car is. Part of what I love about my BRZ is that in the grand scheme of things, it's relatively maintenance free.

I hate the word "stealership".

If nobody required the service then they wouldn't exist.

Sounds like every profit somebody earns is theft.

let's be honest here... these glorified shops are paying kids $10/hr to do this stuff... Don't get me started on flat rate book hours either. A friend of mine regularly turns 80 hours /week working less than 40 hours... Theft isn't the right word more like fraud.... Go to an independent reputable shop if you can't do things yourself... dealerships are for warranty work or work covered by an insurance carrier... and people with more money than brains

i do work myself, i only go for warranty work soon after a vehicle is purchased. I only label a stealership is only when they make a car sale and are ass holes after the sale.

Stealership - denies warranty and wants a certain amount of $ from you when it should be covered under warranty.

Well wait that kid to finish his day and approach to him for a work on your car

Don't do any of the Subaru Canada brake shit. They won't warranty any excessive wear on your pads or un-even wear but you can get a set of pads way cheaper anyway! What a sham.

lol the brake service is so easy to do.

lol I usually just call him when I mess things up lol He pulled a fuel pump out of my Saab once after I had replaced a few parts only to tell me that I had no gas and was an idiot :slap::bonk:

Try and do as much of it yourself as possible, given that you'll be working to refrain from violating the warranty if you leased.

$40 for 6L 0w-20 from Toyota + $10 oil filter from Subaru, saves you some money twice a year. Bigger jobs leave it to the pros, but check out independent garages like the others said.

I've been going to the dealership for oil changes, the $10 savings of doing it myself isn't worth it to me (I've been paying between $58-$61 taxes in for an oil change).

That's really cheap, what kind of oil are you using?
