Toyota will announce the FT86 in Tokyo 2011 motor show?

So, I wake up today and as usual the first thing I did was searching for more information about the the upcoming FT-86 :) . Also as usual, I didn't find anything new :( . So, I thought I would make my "own" News by speculating the release date of the car! So here it goes:

I believe that Toyota will be releasing their FT-86 in Tokyo's 2011 Motor Show and here is why i do so:

1- Many rumors said that the car will be announced "end of 2011" or "November 2011". Tokyo 2011 will be held between the 2nd and the 11th of December with press release dates on the 30th of November and 1st of December. So, it is pretty close.

2- I guess that at least some of us agree that Toyota is targeting the Japanese market more than any other with their FT-86. So, releasing it in Tokyo makes lots of sense.

3- Japanese Manufacturers release lots of eco cars in Tokyo. The FT-86 is a great "ECO Sports Car".

4- Toyota released their FT-86 concept in 2009's Tokyo. So releasing the production version there also makes since. I can see Akio toyoda walks up to the stage and say "two years ago, we introduced a concept that inspired many ............ and now I proudly introduce the 2012 Toyota FR-S!"

5- If you go to Tokyo Motor Show's website, You will see this "Makes a spectacular return to Tokyo after a 24 year absence". The AE86 was last produced in 1987. By 2011, that would be "a 24 year absence".

Soooo, What do you think ? :iono:
have I done it ? :party0030:
Or have my mind feathered away from waiting ? :mad0259:

lmao. The show itself is returning to Tokyo.

It is however where they will likely show it and hopefully it'll be one sale soon after.... I'd be more than thrilled if they chose to do it in NY, Detroit or Geneva, but whatever. We'll see.

OP: I feel your pain - I have long since stopped making daily searches and forum snoops and only check the net every few weeks now, just to reduce the frustration quotient!

Your speculation seems sensible, but I hope the wait isn't that long!

I think that Toyota is measuring the CR-Z success, to decide, drivetrain, price, target, etc etc...

Toyota can easily go with plug-in electric on ft-86. Consider affordable is not "Hybrid", why don't they go with anything better if it's not affordable anymore? If the price tag on the base model is over 25K, it's just ridiculous.

fuck. that. shit.

I read somewere that there are reports that show that the production FT-86 could arrive at the New York Auto Show in 2011.

My sources @ TMS say a NY Auto Show unveiling (April), though it's not set in stone.
