LSx swap stock trans?
LS swapping my car and tossing around a few different options. I have t56 transmission mounts but I also have a few spare stock frs transmissions. Has anybody adapted the stock frs transmission to work with an LSx?

I've blown the synchros on 2 stock transmissions with about 270whp/240wtq out of an FA with pretty low torque. People shatter gears above 400whp/350tq from what I've seen, pretty rapidly. How much do you plan to make on your LSx? I hope you have a LOT of spare transmissions all modified to fit the LSx and free time :burnrubber:

I'm not saying this is what I'm going to do, it's just an option. I really just want to see if anybody has already made a bell housing to mate the stock trans to an LS |
I've had the synchro assemblies blow apart before and found ball bearings when I drained the oil. Not as much of a power issue. Thing is you will probably make more than 350whp pretty easily. The bell housings aren't just bolt-on/off swappable. The trans needs to be fully dismantled since the bell housing and the front bearing carriers are the same piece. I don't know of any kit or adapter plate that's already been made. People usually opt for a stronger trans when it's going to a swapped motor anyway.

If your going to do anything, make sure you atleast add a trans cooler if you dont already have one.

I would sell the few spare stock frs transmissions. just go with a transmission that will last a lot longer, and enjoy driving the car (more seat time, then garage time).

Dip is trying to give you some evidence that he's witnessed and corroborates with others'... so bro. what are you really trying to do here- are you trying to gather information or are you trying to convince us that your idea is sound and you won't have to throw more money into your pipedream ls rig? |

Look guys, I get your point. The stock transmission is NOT the best (or even a viable) option for an LS swap (I never did say it was) - but please understand that the point of this thread was not to gauge opinions. My only question was if somebody has developed a method to mate the stock transmission to an LS series motor. If someone had already made a solution for this, I would have considered using it, but based on your responses it appears nobody has (or ever will). You win, I'll find a T56 and break that instead :burnrubber: |
Koa Dipstik-sportech Since you both seem to know a bit more about the swap than me anyways, perhaps you could shed some light on a different aspect of it?
I already all the mechanical parts of the build taken care of. Yes I will still need to find a T56, but that's not going to be a big deal. I will be running a standalone engine management & fuel injection system on the motor. Getting the motor itself running properly and tuned will be NO problem. My question is, do you know what I will need in order to make the rest of the factory electronics work well enough for me to be able to drive the car? Gauges and other amenities aren't a big deal, I just need to be able to start the car, drive it without traction control interfering, etc. Any input you give would be appreciated here:thanks: |

lots of discussion already on how to make the BCU and other systems, including Traction Control, to work with the car. |
