HID kits... DDM tuning or Diode dynamics
Yeah, yeah, you get what you pay for, right? Well I have heard good things about ddm tuning HIDs (http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DD...ast-35W-or-55W), and diode dynamics is obviously good (http://www.diodedynamics.com/store/l...conversion-kit).
So what are you guys running on your cars? I've got a friend who is running ddm on his tc and they look pretty good. But I figured I'd get a second opinion before buying. |
dude diode dynamics
here's loads more second opinions based on your thread title alone, followed by a cool method to parse Google for search results focused on a specific site https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...3aft86club.com |
I have the OLM from SpeedFactory, but I started with them so I don't know how they compare to Diode Dynamics. However, if I were you... I'd go with Diode. Just Saiyan.

DDM = garbage
Dunno where you're hearing good things about them from... Personally, I'd go with The Retrofit Source. |
+1 for TRS. Great customer service and top-notch stuff. They have their own forums as well. Float around there too much and you might get addicted to retrofitting after seeing the epicness of proper retrofits and not just PnP HID kits.

DDM's aren't great, but they aren't bad either. Kind of a middle ground between ebay crap and an inexpensive name brand setup.
Given the choice, I would go with TRS also. |
Most of the lights in my car are all from Diode Dynamics. I have had all of the lights at around the same time for over a year and they keep working and producing the same light from day 1. Really good quality stuff and good customer service. I keep wanting to add more and more stuff from them but have run out things to change.
I would strongly recommend Diode Dynamics. |
Please don't go with DDM...or any other brand that uses plastic ballast housings. We've seen ballasts with plastic housings emit RF signals that can really mess with the electronics in the car and mess up the tune, even the factory tune. It's not worth it. Go quality or don't install HID's at all.
The Retrofit Source does offer lightly used Denso ballasts which are OE on many Toyota/Lexus vehicles, that's the hot ticket if you ask me. Sincerely, Zach Delicious Tuning |
Not that I would recommend them but I have purchased a few DDM tuning kits and none have came with a plastic ballast. FWIW I have a kit already going 3 years strong on 2 different cars.
You can get a really good ballast from many vendors, like Zach said retro over to d2s and get phillip ultinon bulbs. |
I have a set from Meng Motorsports.

I had the same set of DDM HIDs on my R6 for 5 years. No problems with them ever. Ended up selling the bike so don't know if they're still working or not. I've been using their HIDs in my fog lights on my BRZ for about 1 1/2 years now also with no problems. They have a lifetime warranty as well.

ive had DDM in previous cars, they work great for a couple months and burn out
ive had Diode Dynamics in the car for over a year, ZERO problems! edit: no more than a few minutes after posting this, i got an Email from DDM turning lol |
I've had the DDM kit on many cars (03 civic si with projector retrofits for 1.5 years, 2011 Evo X for 2 years, and the FR-S for 2 years) and never had an issue. I'm sure the quality isn't as good as the others but they get the job done. I would still recommend giving your money to a reputable vendor though.
