Is it me, or has the FT-86 shows clues of the late Celica?

I cant help but notice the subtle cues on the rear fascia and hood lines on the FT 86 that remind me of the Last Celica...

not seein it...

I hope it shows the same curb weight as the late model celica lol.

I think the sharpness of the headlights is the main similarity. The FT/R-86/S doesn't look as delicate as the Celica.

fargasj 11-29-2010 05:42 AM

I think the hood design and how the tail lights blend with the body...

DantKR 11-29-2010 11:06 AM

They look almost completely different to me. The headlights on the celica go "up" instead of "sideways" the lines are completely different. They also have completely different "faces".

+1

The Celica got lighter with every generation.

5th Gen ~= 2900 lbs
6th Gen ~= 2700 lbs
7th Gen ~= 2500 lbs

2500 lbs, 180hp, 8300RPM, hatchback. My kind of car. Too bad the interior sucks and it drives the wrong wheels. Otherwise, I would have happily bought one of those.

I'm hoping for under 2600lbs and 200hp. With that, I would be very happy. :)

I'll be happy w 2600lbs w 185 w just a tinny bit more tq then I'll be happy.

stevens8 11-29-2010 08:55 PM

That wouldn't be too bad. 2550lbs, 185hp 165-170tq! All in all I would go NA for the first couple years and then I might move onto FI later on down the road.

<2650, >200hp, with braking and handling to match or bust.

ryude 11-30-2010 12:02 PM

I think the main thing is curb weight under 2700 lbs and RWD, even if they fudge up the horsepower it'll still be the best platform since you can always add more horsepower but it's very hard to reduce weight and add RWD.

^ Very good point... As long as this is under 2700lbs, and still has the 2.0L Boxer (with at least reasonable Yamaha heads), then even if they only make it have ~180hp, I'm sure it won't be hard to pull more power out of it with simple things like exhaust, intake, maybe things like cams, etc.
