Tire selection help for forced induction
Ok so I got my wheels yesterday they're XXR 530 18x8.75 +33 in chromium black. I am now trying to figure out which wheels to get, as I plan on going FI next. The power goal is around 350whp, from either the Speed By Design or Vortech kit (Still on the fence). Anyway I was planning on getting 235/40/18 for tires, and was wondering if that will be ok for this power level?

Tire width is not that important at all for dry grip/traction...tire compound is way more important. You need to get a tire with the right rubber compound for your traction needs. The Extreme Performance tire category is what you should be looking at, unless you want to up it to some DOT-R rubber like Nitto NT-01's....

I was using a leftover set from my previous setup and thought I could use continental dw but I found out at the track it just was not suited for track days. like vracer said, compound is extremely important depending on applications. The continental where fine for the street but once I got to the track it was very disappointing if you are looking for pure track times. This apply to all brands, Hankook v12, falken fk, etc... Right tires for the right applications. |

So, I'm likely just going to get 245/35/18's all the way around and get ultra performance tires. I was wondering though, would I be able to run the 245/35/18 up front and 255/35/18 on back? Figured it would give me a wider tire out back, where grip is most needed. I just DD the car and occassionaly get on it, never auto x. Not sure how it would look though, or drive. Typically it seems as though people who do that get staggered rims.
