Tall Driver Here, Saying Hello!
I come from a broad vehicle background and have always enjoyed small sporty cars over the larger "GT" cars. At 6'6", its been a chore to find cars that I find appealing that I also fit inside comfortably.
S2000, NA Miata, Lotus Elise/Exige, etc. Nothing really too comfortable. Yesterday I talked my wife into going to test drive a FR-S. It was yellow with factory body kit and TRD Exhaust (Launch Edition IIRC?) one of 1500 models made. I've sat in them before and every time I get in one, I'm amazed how roomy it is. The test drive not only confirmed how comfortable I fit inside, but also made me DROOL for how light and responsive the vehicle is! Sure there isnt much power when you run out the tachometer but I certainly understand what everyone sees in the car and am planning to eventually get my hands on one (within the next year or so). My 2008 VW R32 is a great daily driver, super comfortable, plenty of space for stuff and my family (we have a one year old) and reasonably economical. However, maintenance costs and overall longevity (damn DSG tranny) make me worry about what kinds of issues I'll have in the future, granted I only have 48K miles on the car currently. I think I'd be interested in a BRZ Limited with all the "extras" that they offer over a FRS, heated seats and keyless go would be high on my list of wants. Previously owning a 2006 WRX Wagon, and living right down the street from IAG Performance makes me lean towards the Subaru also. I've always drooled over TRD parts and accessories but the different front bumper design on the Scion takes enough away from the look of the car to push me more towards the Subaru. Sorry for all this being a bit long winded but my excitement couldnt be greater! A small sporty car for guys my height! 36" inseam, 37" sleeve length, size 16 shoe, 245lbs. Who would have thought!? |

WELCOME......

Keep in mind you may need to squeeze an extra few inches of clearance in to put a helmet on when you're at the track! There are a few low mount seat options just FYI ;)
Welcome! |
I appreciate the tip! Since you brought it up, is there an option to mount the factory seat lower? I know Backyard Special makes low mount seat brackets for factory S2k seats, maybe something similar is available for these cars?

Welcome.
I'm not too far from you, over here in Cockeysville. |
16 shoe?! Are you an NBA player?

Why do you tall dudes always end up standing in front of me at concerts?

And I thought I was lucky. I'm 6'2" and 225lbs - My only issue is that my wide shoulders were too big for the upper seat bolsters. I'm lean enough, but have a wide shoulder/broad chest area that kept my back from touching the flat part of the seat, lol. I ended up finding a post on the forum that somebody bent the upper bolsters of the seat slightly and that worked out well for me. It wasn't a huge change to do, but just enough to slip in there nice and tight.
I have never been able to close the doors when sitting in the driver's seat of a NA/NB miata, and the S2000 is to small to drive as well, doable around the block but nowhere near the point where I could consider buying one. After watching the 86 development for YEARS like the rest of us, I was skeptical that I would fit inside the car. Once I got in and realized it was totally do-able I bought one on the spot a couple of years ago. To get my helmet on, I have to change my seating position a tad - scoot closer to the dash and recline a bit more than I usually would like. I tend to prefer long legged, sitting nearly straight upright but I have to be a bit more leaned back for helmet work. Not a deal breaker, but another inch and a half would do wonders. Not big enough of a problem to adjust seat rails though. It's all good. |
I think you're a little bit taller than tall. Size 16 shoe? How do you heel-toe? Or do you big toe-pinky toe to rev match?
Anyway, welcome! Don't hurt me. - Short 5'9" driver |
6'1" 180lbs and this car fits like a Sparco racing glove!
|
I'm 6'4" so I feel your pain! but like you said, this car fits great!
I was like you, and went for the Subaru for all the extras. That and Scion wouldn't haggle, so I got a fully loaded BRZ for about 400 more than an FRS. |
